"Understand moderate republicans, let's move on, we must unite, let's play nice, run for local office."

WTF!

I went to a dem meeting tonight to find out what people in my area are doing about voter fraud, the war, civil liberties, etc and I get namby-pamby dribble about moving on and making nice with moderate repubs. Does anyone get it that this is why we lost the election?

I keep waiting for someone to start the revolution, but it ain't happening with the same old tired crowd of dems who have no energy, no new ideas and no way to attract average joe's like I used to be and set them on fire about the mess we have on our hands.

Guess I have to start my own revolution. Thank god for DU.

7. Moderate - Sure
Moderate republicans is an oxymoron. I find, however, that the term is used for those republicans who, when they need to show their "moderation" to their dem and middle of the road constituents, can vote against the administration. It might be an environmental issue, maybe a pork barrel issue - you get the idea. They can then trot out the assertion that they are moderates. When you scratch the surface, though, you find that they vote party line 90+% of the time.

18. Okay, here's a not so namby pamby suggestion
There are Moderate Republican, as in "voted for Kerry" Republicans out there. There are fiscal Conservative Republicans who are two steps away from going Libertarian in the same way we have those who are two steps aways from going Green.

Uniting doesn't have to be about uniting with the social Conservatives and the Neo-cons. How about the people in Bush's party who want to stop his agenda too.

Speaketh the Republicans for Kerry: "Country before party!"

Know what I mean?

37. I used to be a moderate Republican. For 26 years now, I'm a Democrat.
Reagan showed me in 1980-1982 that moderate Republicans wouldn't have a "seat at the table" in the party.

For years I thought I was an Independent, then I learned that my philosophy and the Democratic Party platform were nearly identical.

Sigh, so if one could find a "moderate" Republican would he/she be in a zoo? Sort of the last of the endangered species?

42. You could go to the yahoo group and ask them
There must be a reason there were several "Republicans for Kerry" voting in this election. What does that make them, I wonder. The right would call them Liberal Democrats for their dissent. That sadly amused me when I heard about the CIA purge. Get rid of the Liberal Democrats? So is that what they're calling those who disagree?

So maybe the Goldwater Republicans turned Democrat. And the Kennedy Democrats turned Republican (some of them.) Maybe some of these Republicans for Kerry have just started on the road that you've completed.

9. I get what you're saying, I'm an pissed off african american BUT.....
I agree with the part of the statement that says we need Moderate Repubs.

This is THE best time to get to them.

They are just as pissed off that Bush won as we are( I spent most of the day after election day consoling moderate Repubs and Indys) and I guess pursuing that line of defense would give them the reason to resist.

We can't afford that.

That's why I support a steath, Washinton-only attack on Repubs and their vote-stealing method of winning.

Dems in California are already starting it the way I'm understanding it.

A strategy on the down low.

Right now, this is a good strategy to stop Bush.

I believe they are going to rue the day they snubbed mod Repubs. We just need to help them out.

I already have the promise of about 20 of them that have pledged to vote in favor of Dems until they are in the White House again.

Now if Arnold runs we have a problem, but if we can halt that in some way(I'm thinking past affair) we could, at least keep the door open for Dems.

I wish I could tell you of all the overtime I'm doing in trying to convince blacks and the young vote to stick around while we try to fix the problem.

In the meantime, we have to convince Hill Dems that they won't win sh*t without electoral reform.
They have to fight back or they will lose their base
In fact, why don't you tell your chapter that at the next meeting.

17. Please do
During the campaign, I was at one point working a list called super-Democrats. They were mostly elderly people, and many were too frail to carry an activist burden. I'm grandmother-age, and I'm the "young blood" of the locals, which is scary. We do need to work at the grassroots level and the local Democratic clubs already exist as a platform.

36. That's the idea!
There are some more elections in just 2 years. All of us who got energized online and haven't yet invaded our local Dem clubs have to find a buddy and get in there. Pick a target, pull his voting record and start showing how he/she's hurting the constituents. (And if they're in lock-step with this administration, that should be easy).

they've lost faith and that's understandable, but not excusable....this is our country we're talking about here.

Hill Dems are acting like asses and punks.

But we can change that by speaking up.

Don't keep it to yourself.

Yell it.

One thing I have learned in this election is that sometimes people vote for the people who scream the loudest.

Modestly :), I am a force at my college for this very reason.
I'm willing to take the chance because I believe it's worth it.

It's time for the "get up off your ass or we'll vote you OUT" strategery. :)

32. Good work, des! It's specific initiatives like yours that go a long ways
toward fixing what ails us. The more specific ideas we can come up with, the quicker we'll be in the drivers seat again.

Among other things I like your ideas of a Washington-only attack on Repubs and the electoral reform thing.

A specific idea of mine that I think could help is one I posted a while back about how we need to get some Democratic leaders who will start sending the message that the Repuke party is a party that's associated with bigotry and intolerance. By using the power of association, we can cause eventual division in their party. We just have to be unanimous and repetitive in our message until the rest of the country catches on.

10. I amazed at the dysfunction, the spinning in circles
the unwillingness to rock the boat, to stand up, to raise the fist, yell, march, scream of the democratic party.

Dammit, I'm a democrat because I believe in all the causes the dem party is supposed to stand for. But if the "people" cannot get it that we need to fight this "virus" that has taken over the country, then I may have to join another party...

The repubs figured it out 20 years ago. Align with the churches, repeat the same shit over and over and over by everyone until it has to be true and STICK TOGETHER! You can't get democrats in the same room without someone hurting someone elses feelings, or boring everyone else to DEATH with ego ridden speeches that we all heard before.

15. I agree.
I got a nice "touchy, feely" email today from Eli at MoveOn.org entitled "A new beginning." It was all about the house parties that MoveOn sponsored over the weekend, and though I could not attend I agree that the points raised were good ones. I am an active MoveOn member and am more than ready to give them their due, but sometimes I wonder if they aren't missing the mark. I wonder if many of them and many others in the democratic party aren't failing to realize just who the fuck it is we're dealing with here. We can't meet these people half way. They'd love for us to be stupid enough to buy into that. Come on, for Christ's sake! We're the Democrats. They're the ignorant ones - not us! These people are not Americans - not as we understand that designation. They are monsters. They are fascists with citizenship papers, and they cannot be reasoned with in the language of democracy. Don't believe it? Here's a little reading material for you. Check out what Patriot Act II has in store for us at < http://www.rense.com/general59/newsgatheringisillegal.htm > and also at < http://www.infowars.com/police_state.html >. Want some more? How about the likes of Falwell et al and the push for an American theocracy - see < http://www.theocracywatch.org/ >.

My point is this: You can't be nice to these people. You can't join with them in common cause. Common cause is dead. You want to move on? Then forget common cause. It's them or us; fascism or democracy. I'm not prepared to give an inch. I'd rather die fighting. Power to the people!

19. I thought after a nights sleep, I'd mellow out
NOT. In fact, I didn't sleep last night but tossed and turned with visions of revolution in my head.

I say if moderate repubs agree with us so much on so many issues, why the fuck aren't they democrats. Today I begin to get active. I no longer will rely on moveon, John Kerry, Howard Dean or Jon Stewart to get the job done. It's up to me. Whatever I have to do.

This ain't the 60's and this ain't a love in. I don't use pot to mellow me out anymore. And the democratice party better step up to the plate and behave as if they are radically pissed or I'm leaving them in the dust. Because if they are not feeling royally fucked and ready to turn the tables, then they are useless.

Time for change.

do you think the reps would be telling their people it's time to unite with the dems? Somehow I don't remember hearing that during Clintons term.

Michael Moore is right, dems are too easy to get along. It has cost us. The reps don't budge and hold their ground. Look who has all three houses.

We really ought to be screaming loudly when we see what we do not agree with. If they want to unite, I suggest you get them a republican pin because thats what they are saying.

45. Unite over what? Disenfranchising gays? Raping the earth? Um, no
I *understand* the call to woo our "socially liberal - voting repug" brothers but I reject it. I couldn't in good conscience unite with them if they could sell out on so many issues for *perceived* security and $400 per child. In my mind, they are worse than the total lost causes because they should *know* better.

The Repubs who voted Kerry are already with us so we have already "united". The others need to experience a bit of Bush and his plans and they'll unite with us 4 years from now (well, some never will but we can't reach them anyway).
