Kucinich as a new Bobby Kennedy?
Some have been saying that Kucinich is a Bobby Kennedy type of leader or politician.

I can actually see that. He does have that appeal (well, that politics and passion, not the looks)....he could appeal to lots of different folks for different reasons, the way Kennedy did.

But I thought that Kerry has some sort of connection to the Kennedys...by marraige or something? Does anyone recall hearing that?

1. I like this comparison!
Bobby, Paul Wellstone - there are some very favorable comparisons to be made to Dennis.

5. Yeah, true.
that was then, and people recalled JFK too.

I agree Bobby would have seriously kicked Tricky Dicks ass.

2. How does a direct affiliation with someone
relate to the perceived view of someone else?

Kucinich is described as a new Bobby Kennedy, and you ask "doesn't Kerry know him?"

13. Uh, he'd like to BE one.....
What with his initials, his working relationship with Teddy Kennedy, his quoting them all the time, being from the same state, a veteran and a senator like JFK....

Other than that, I don't think there's any connection.

6. This is like judging Kerry for the man he was 35 years ago
when he opposed a war that was fought based on lies, instead of the man he is TODAY and the war he voted for.

15. Wow, two weeks ago you were talking about your Kucinich bumperstickers
now this-you often confuse me, TheBigGuy.

I'm curious too.

That was in the same time frame as your thread in The Lounge on your admiration of Nazi uniforms {not ideology}.

These are confusing times for all of US. DK has been consistently a loyal Dem, he worked his butt off for Al Gore in Ohio before the sElection.

If you've changed your mind, fine-if Dennis gets the nomination will you then vote for him?

"If you've changed your mind, fine-if Dennis gets the nomination will you then vote for him?"

No way id ever vote for a Republican...& Im undecided right now. I might end up voting for DK in the primarys after all because I do like him in general.

The interest in german militaria is just a hobby or interest...not a political thing.

Is that what you're thinking of maybe?

If you find out anything about DK and the Kennedies let me know. Would be interesting- one of those factoids...

Peace :)

12. One Difference between Robert Kennedy and Kucinich . .
is that Kennedy was a lot harder to topple on Defense and Foreign Policy issues. He had a background and a reputation as someone who would be, despite his questioning of the Vietnam war, tough on defense. Kucinich doesn't have that, as near as I can tell. I like Kucinich domestically, but most of his foreign policy and defense statements don't sound very convincing.

I think his "Department of Peace" would come back to haunt him on this issue.

I could be wrong, of course.

14. Kucinich lacks another thing that Bobby Kennedy had
Edited on Mon Jul-07-03 11:13 AM by IndianaGreen
Bobby was a staffer working in Joe McCarthy's red witchhunts committee, in which Jack Kennedy was a member. Not a very liberal thing to do!

At the time, it was Kennedy political expediency to be part of the red baiting campaign that was used solely to persecute progressives.

Kucinich has no such record! Good for Dennis!

16. Kerry's "connection" to Kennedy:
Edited on Mon Jul-07-03 09:02 PM by LSdemocrat
I believe that the connection you may be thinking of is that Kerry's supporters occasionally to refer to the fact that both Kerry and John Kerry have the same initials: JFK.

He's at first glance different in his background and all but listen to Dennis speak he is wordsmith like RFK. He has quoted RFK too. I admire RFK a lot so thats why I switched from Kucinich to RFK but kept DK for pres as my sig.

20. Vegan spiritualists AND vegitarian UFO worshippers!!!
Not that I dislike Kucinich as a congressman, but this is really a misuse of RFK's legacy.

Kucincich is a fringe democrat who's campaign is not considered to be realistically formiddable in the primary and a joke in the general by any credible politicos, progressive and otherwise.

RFK was and is a mainstream hero and saint for a huge fraction of America and Kucinich, I'm sorry will be lucky to be a footnote

22. Sorry Bombtrack
We ain't buyin what your sellin

DK IS viable. You obviously are still holding onto dated and timeworn theories about electability.

Dennis and Dean both have harnessed a force called "grassroots".

Grassroots is what will win this country back from the BFEE.

But go ahead, keep repeating old, disproved ideas. It makes for good reading, and a chuckle or two.

29. That's is true, Kucinich is no Bobby Kennedy
Kucinich is not devoting any amount of time in his campaign trying to get in bed with young staffers and volunteers, like Bobby Kennedy did!

That's is true, Kucinich is no Bobby Kennedy!

28. From having heard him in person (lucky me,)
he electrifies the crowd like Bobby.
He speaks common sense to ordinary people, like Bobby.
He cares about the country in its compexity, like Bobby.
He has vision, like Bobby.

And I never thought Bobby was great looking. Much preferred Jack's looks.

30. I agree
but to be honest I think Bobby was pretty handsome too. The only difference is not a bad thing but Dennis comes from a humble background that makes no difference everything else is true. He also is a great wordsmith like Bobby he can make the most beautiful quips like "Why is it that we have enough money to bomb a bridge on the Euphrates River in Iraq but we dont have enough money to build a bridge on the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland."

31. As an aside, a joke.
In response to a question from the crowd.

From the Albuquerque Journal article:
"Kucinich said he is sometimes asked why he is a Democrat instead of a Green, given his progressive views: he supports total nuclear disarmament and universal health care, among other things.

'I'm doing missionary work,' Kucinich said."

Sharp and funny, like Bobby.
