CNN Reveals Bush Strategy Re: UN Bails Us Out in Iraq (rant)
Well, we all knew it was going to start, but even little old jaded me is surprised at the ferocity, though not the idiocy.

The bushies have totally lost their marbles. The war in Iraq is LOST, and yet they STILL can't see their way clear to make an honest effort to engage the UN. Their strategy will be what it always has been, ie: to paint the UN as a home for terrorists, anti-American to its core, opportunists and only a step above OBL.

To whit, they've got CNN on board to beat the drum of anti-UNism even as they go crow in mouth slinking back to the UN (read: the world) to bail them out of their misadventure. Here's a few of the talking points I saw on CNN in the space of 10 minutes (2:50-3PM PDT):

1. They are opportunists: France, Russia and others were "doing business in Iraq" before the war (through the oil-for-aid program) and stand to "make money" in the rebuilding. NO MENTION OF DICK CHENEY-RUN HALIBURTON DOING EXACTLY THE SAME THING!!

2. Those UN types are meanies!!: They actually showed a video of some diplomat (probably French) smoking a cigarette in the UN chamber. They then commented, saying "even though the UN has of today outlawed smoking. IT SHOWS YOU THE TYPE OF ATTITUDE WE'RE UP AGAINST AT THE UN" I swear, they actually said that...and the two pretty-boy/girl talking heads running the segment also commented on it after the vid ran.

3. The UN members will want to exact "a price" for their help. Yep, the USA is as pure as snow, but those dirty UNers are dirty money grubbers...and they're doing it over the bodies of our troops. Their "report" points out that "they will want some of the contracts to rebuild Iraq." NO MENTION THAT THE USA CURRENTLY CONTROLS 100% OF THOSE CONTRACTS!!! Yet, if France were to get 5% of the contracts, they'd be money grubbers!! (at least that's the implication) The USA could keep 95% of those same contracts, but our motives are, of course, totally benign and well-intentioned.

4. Wolf Blitz-shit: had Kucinich and Rohrbacher on to discuss Iraq. Kucinich got about a minute of airtime to Dumb Dana's 3 minutes. Typical.

What we have here is diplomacy by the corporations of America. The bushies have no interest in a real solution. Their bought-and-paid-for-media is already building the exit strategy from the latest sure-to-be-UN-debacle, ie: they're evil and can't be trusted, so we'll just go it alone after all. That means more spending cuts, more unemployment and more tax cuts, AND the return of the draft to raise more cannon fodder for the bush war machine.

CNN obviously got the memo and are hard at working building the case that the UN doesn't want to help, they only want to get their hands on those contracts.

Sickening.

1. Same ole crap in new wrapping
When I first heard the bushies were going back to the UN on hand and knees, my first thought was, "My God, things in Iraq must be 1,000 times worse than we can even imagine!"

But their greed will be their undoing. I hope the UN tells them to stick up their a&* and I hope the rich in this country keep losing their shirts for betting on the con artists.

2. Those that cried most loudly for this war...
...should be the ones to pay for it. And I mean individuals. Start putting $10,000 tickets on cars with Nuke Iraq bumper stickers. Tax every god damn Bushbot Republican an extra $20,000 dollars for 2004. I don't support this damned Bush regime, and I, like the majority of voters, didn't elect the bastard. I shouldn't have to pay for his stadiums, his drinking habit or his damned war.
