Pat Buchanan is on Scarbourgh country and has called Condi Rice a neocon instead of a conservative. What is a neoconservative? How is a neocon different from a conservative (in what views)?

Buchanan uses the term neocon like racists use the term "n*gger".

3. This one is my favorite.
"Condi is Presbyterian, I think. Pat Buchanan has moved beyond the fringe and is now officially off the radar screen."

4. that is spooky
It is almost like we live on a different planet than they do.

How could they be so unfamiliar with the term neo-con?

5. Ooo! I'm surprised this poster hasn't been banned yet.
A neocon is someone who promotes huge government departments devoted to homeland security (waving yellow flags, and warning us how we're all gonna die) but for some reason... won't close the border...

that they vote for them, over and over, but I very much doubt any one of them would understand what the term neoconservative/neocon means, or how any of the people who subscribe to it arrived there, or the differences ideologically between them and paleocons with a sidecar of bigotry like Buchanan?

I suspect it would whiz over their dopey little heads like a turkey buzzard.

Probably not just me, around here.

7. Neo-cons are former democrats
The term originates from a group of former Democrats who left the party when it became less interested in foreign intervention abroad. They called themselves "neo-conservatives" or new-conservatives, because they'd formerly been liberals. The chief ideological distinction today between neo-cons and more traditional conservatives is that they believe the US should exercise it's power overtly for what they see as a force of good--spreading Democracy. They shun the UN and other international alliances that they see as interfering with the exercise of American power.
As I'm sure you already know, Iraq is their war. Their argued for it before Bush was even tapped as the Republican nominee.

14. I can't think of a former liberal on this list:
Cheney
Bush
Rumsfeld
Armitage
Ashcroft

Former Liberals?

17. It's where their ideas come from that counts
and, you left out the three worst, IMO: Wolfowitz, Feith, and Perle. They all speak the exact same language.

15. Oooh, nice way to boil it down
That's a description many people would be able to latch onto. I think I may save this- may I use (some of) it in a LTTE?

That was great.

8. Duh is right.
I can't believe the majority of them don't even know what the terms mean. Somebody go over there and send them some links on the PNAC for Pete's sake.

13. I sent a PNAC link to a freeper friend of mine about 3 weeks ago
and haven't heard a word from him since. He's probably still reading with his mouth wide open. On second thought, their mouthes are always wide open.

16. They might not quite understand how it is a bad thing.
The actual PNAC website doesn't make it sound bad. One has to be smart enough to read between the lines. The reader must also understand who is in this ring and who is making the decisions.

You should also direct them to Chalmers Johnson or Noam Chomsky. That might help give a more well-rounded picture to imperialism/neoconservatism.

in to the PNAC? Some came close, but most were confused by the "Neo" as new republican recruit or stuck on the Israel connection. This is my favorite attempt at defining "Neo-Con":

"politicsfan
Most African-Americans who are currently presenting themselves as conservatives could certainly be characterized as "neo-con." And I don't mean to point that to anything to do with race. I'm truly happy to have them back on the right side, and off of the liberal welfare plantation."

I guess that would make Colin Powell a Neo-Con.. ha

11. You've got to be fucking kidding me. At least "Buckhead" and Corsi ought
to know what a neocon is. Just probably not allowed to post the description/definition on FR though.
