What I want for Christmas...please help
This year, when my family members inevitably ask me what I want for Christmas, I am going to ask them to donate to certain charities in my name - but not the usual American Cancer Society and all that. I am going to give them a list of Dem-leaning charities to pick from. The problem is, other than the DU, I don't really know of any reputable ones where I can be confident the money will be put to good use.

Anyone? Anyone? Anyone?

1. Give to DU
DU gives you support, you are able to air your feelings, you receive advice and DU is cheaper than expensive therapy. I don't trust too many places likes the United Way, Red Cross, Cancer Foundaton, just don't trust charities anymore. That is how the rich get richer. DU is my weekly therapy session even if I don't contribute in writing.

Hey, if yu don't have a star have your family buy you one.

5. The Human Rights Campaign
www.hrc.org

"As America's largest gay and lesbian organization, the Human Rights Campaign provides a national voice on gay and lesbian issues. The Human Rights Campaign effectively lobbies Congress; mobilizes grassroots action in diverse communities; invests strategically to elect a fair-minded Congress; and increases public understanding through innovative education and communication strategies.

"HRC is a bipartisan organization that works to advance equality based on sexual orientation and gender expression and identity, to ensure that gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Americans can be open, honest and safe at home, at work and in the community."

7. The Natural Resources Defense Council would be a good one
I just joined the other day at this link: NRDC

On their front page now they have a plea:

"Defend Western Wildlands

Speak out against drilling in Colorado's HD Mountains and Utah's redrock country."

With *'s policies toward the environment, an organization like this becomes even more important.

9. Think local as well...
Meals on Wheels (or it's equal) in your community is a good cause....underfunded and it's one of the programs that has a really direct effect on lives. (One of the few gov programs where the beaurocratic BS doesn't affect the recipients -it falls to those of us who actually implement the program).

Also Libraries are in big trouble these days. <sigh> So many causes and so little funding. Ain't conservative compassion just great?

Whatever you decide, I applaud your selflessness. :toast:
