Dominionism and our nation's beginnings

Dominionists believe that our founders formed this great nation based on Christian ideals and they want very much to "return" this country to those ideals, wherein governing authority is derived from God, obliterating what they say is a mythical church and state separation.

To prove that our nation's founders intended us to be a Christian nation, the Dominionists use twisted and out-of-context quotes, ignoring the great body of work from our founders that show the opposite.

But, just for fun, let's say that the dominionists are correct. Let's say that Washington and Jefferson and Madison and the rest intended for us to be a Christian nation and that Christian ideals are reflected in our founding documents. The still doesn't ring true to me. First of all, those values are reflected in many religions. Secondly, let's look at some other values held by our founders. Some of our founding fathers were also slave-owners. Most didn't want women to vote. Some didn't want non-property owners to vote. These values were reflected in the documents produced by our founding fathers. Does that mean we're a slavery-favoring, elitist, chauvinistic nation?

Or, for you purists, does that mean that we should be such a nation?

glorious leaders agenda.

"ownership society" == potential for non 'owners' to not be able to vote. This has already started.


As for slaves... any of us who work for a living and are forced by law to kick over a third of what we make to a government, well that makes us all slaves or serfs by defintion.

So I think our 'friends' the dominionists would argue that, yes, these are both true. :eyes:

that's their entire point. They want to revert to the days of rich white landowners being the only ones to vote, keep women in thier "place" and I'm sure they'd like to reinstitute slavery.
That's entirely the whole point for thier current exercise.

4. My guess is that they

really think of the Puritans as the nations founders and simply pay lip service to the Founding Fathers. It's just too early in the game for them to reveal that belief.

They seem to understand something of how to push their ideas on society somewhat gradually. I think their ultimate goal will be for the Puritans to be seen as the authentic founders and for society to accept that view. The Puritans were theocrats, just like they are.
