Anyone interested in a "Classic movies" forum?
Edited on Sat Nov-13-04 10:43 PM by WI_DEM
Any film buffs here who want a forum?

Great then we will need a mission statement, so why don't we come up with suggestions.

Perhaps something like this:
A classic film forum would discuss and evaluate classic motion pictures and their impact on American culture. Our group is interested in the preservation of classic films and seeks to increase awareness of these films.

As you can see, I'm not that great at mission statements, so any suggestions are welcome.

One vote from me, and if allowed, my Beagle wants a vote, too.
Her name is Jean Harlow.

Of all the movies I own, only about 10 are in color. That's it.

A classic film forum with discussion and evaluation of the era including the outstanding talent of actors, directors and the grand studios that produced them. Their impact on American culture has never waned and preservation efforts of these great films will make sure they are never lost.

Thanks Sparkly and Carla in Ca! I drive my husband crazy with all my old movies. He doesn't understand WHY I love to watch them over and over! Some of them I can recite the lines as they are spoken. They are like old friends and I love them! Current movies are nowhere near as good. IMHO!

41. I wish I knew, but its quite effective!
'Suspicion' is over now, and its was wonderful, as usual. Now playing 'The Women'! Love, love, love this one! Do you have Digital TV in your area? We have Time Warner and got their new Digital Recording service, so I record lots of old movies to watch when nothing else is on, OR my husband sees ANOTHER 'Law and Order' that he wants to watch! They ought to have their own 'Law and Order' channel. Its on all the time on most every channel it seems! Anyway, when that happens, he is banished to another room to watch, and I turn on my Classic Movies!!!

I just made a temporary move to a town with Cablevision. Yuck! they don't offer TCM. The good news is, I've taped just about every good movie they show. I've hundreds! Including, "The Women." :bounce:

28. Is this significantly different from "Entertainment & Pop Culture" forum?
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=210

If we add too many more forums on, it will start to dilute the conversation.

29. It's focused more on films of bygone eras rather than contemporary
culture, but I suppose it could be seen as a sub-category of "entertainment," as well.

I'd already posted it to the admins, though, so let's let them decide.

39. Within the last 48 hours we've seen
"Lord Jim" with Peter O'toole and "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" w/ Kirk Douglas.

O'Toole was so gay that it was laughable (NTTAWWI). Same overacted stuff as in "Laurence of Arabia". Really funny stuff!

In "20,000 etc.." Kirk Douglas performs a bawdy song for his fellow shipmates (guitar and vocals) aboard the US warship (before Nemo gets them) and he twitches his ass like a belly dancer. I keeled over. It was so funny! :)
