Rick Santorum ripping off PA taxpayers to the tune of $100,000
In an article in our local paper, it was revealed that Rick Santorum (Mr. Family Values) is billing a Pittsburgh school district for his 6 kids to use its Internet-based school. A school board member is questioning this charge, since the Santorums live in VA in a $757,000 house most of the time. The house they pay taxes on in PA is a frame, two-bedroom house valued at $106,000. How much time do you think the family of 8 spends in THAT house?

Under PA's 2002 cyberschool law, the district in which a student lives must pay the cost of tuition for students enrolled in online schools. Virginia has no such provision, which is why he rips off the PA taxpayers. Methinks his kids probably attend private schools and access the internet school for fun.

I don't like the law at all. There was a local family that billed a county school district for the cost of the cyberschool and the district didn't want to pay for it. The family took it to court and I haven't heard what the outcome was. People who home school use the internet school instead doing the home-schooling themselves. Why should the taxpayers pay for that?:(

2. I am appalled at the cost of the cyber school
If Mrs Sanctimonious is doing the teaching with the assistance of some software...I don't know how the cost can be justified...even if they bought each kid a new computer each year which would be unnecessary.

But in reality the plan is to bilk the public schools out of money until the right wing basically destroys public education.

4. Most homeschoolers I know pay for their children.
In Florida, you can dual enroll in a Jr. College the last two years that you homeschool thereby earning an AA when you receive your high school diploma. Only if you are dual enrolled and earning the grades is the school district responsible for the schooling, as it is for the students that leave public high school to attend.

As it should be.

I support home schooling with the understanding that the parents have chosen this method, and they are not a burden on the taxpayer.
