but in the downtown area. At this time, there have been no such "booms" anywhere other than the northeast section of the city. However, these booms are strong enough that they are shaking homes along Lake Avenue...violently enough that some of the residents are wondering if they'll have to tape things down. According to this morning's Journal-Gazette, Fort Wayne based Omni-Source, Corp., who is one of North America's largest processors of scrap and recycled metal, will look into their possible role in this. According to Ben Eisbart, who is executive vice-president of operations, the company's shredder puts cars or other items into a rotation where they are struck by 350-to-500 pound hammers for 30 to 45 seconds. However, Eisbart does not believe the noises coming from Omni-Source could shake homes. Personally, anytime I've ever been in that part of town (the American Legion post I belong to is in the northeast quadrant) I've never noticed this phenomenon. However, the complaints first started last spring and have continued since. Guess I'll start paying closer attention whenever I journey up northeast. :headbang:
