Veterans' Day request to DU Veterans

First, to all the DU vets, thank you thank you thank you a thousand times for your service. You gave your lives to your nation for a time, and we are forever grateful for your sacrifice. It troubles me to ask for anything more, but I feel compelled to do so.

We need you again. We need you to organize and train left militia groups and neighborhood defense networks. I can sense the seeds of genuine civil unrest, on a scale unseen in my lifetime, are growing in our country. The liberal urban enclaves are in an increasingly tenuous position, in perpetual ideological and economic conflict with our rural neighbors. I, for one, can no longer assume that these differences will be resolved peacefully, nor that the rightwing will continue to tolerate the existence of these differences. Very soon, they will move to crush us.

We need training and organization in tactics and operations. We are starting with serious logistic and motivational disadvantages. Help us overcome these obstacles. Please volunteer to train your civvy friends and liberal neighbors. Even if you're physically disabled, you can verbally provide priceless insight into strategies, both current and past, that can change the flow of events in the event of a civic breakdown.

The minority populations of Europe learned these lessons the hard way in WWII. With each step towards their systematic extermination, every constriction of freedom was always presented -- no matter how grievous the situation -- as a relatively minor incrimental deterioration, in which it was always easier to go along than resist. It was easier to allow the occupation of Warsaw than resist. It was easier to live with the closure of the ghetto than resist. It was easier to go to the trains than resist. It was easier to enter the Auschwitz showers than resist.

In the final tally, the Jews who resisted the Nazis had a higher survival rate than those who went along.

Help us. Not necessarily on this forum, it's too open and too well-patrolled by rightwing authoritarian stooges to do anything meaningful. Organize with people you know and trust and their immediate families. Help them train their trusted friends. Please, undertake one more necessary service for your country. We need you now as much as ever.
