I find we are all starting to sound like Russians during the Gulag days
Having known many Russians and Georgians in the 70's and 80's I can hear in our own voices the cynacycism, gallows humor and fear that was the trademark of the average Russian citizen 30 years ago.

Mind you the consequences are not as severe in the US as the Gulag days of the Soviet Union but I hear the similar stains of suppressed outrage all the same.

Once the Internet shuts down to a trickle I imagine our voices will be equally as strident as the oppressed Russians - expect we will all have, Clear Channel, Sinclair and Jesus to keep us informed.

1. As well as the jokes about Pravda
I wonder how long before a majority of people have this attitude about the press

3. I think I may take claim
on upping Nader's remark about Corporate socialism to tagging the Corporate Pravda in 2000. Seems to have taken some roots, but it's a natural comparison.

(Cheney's sockpuppet too)

2. Sure, it's always the Russians...
....let me tell you about my great-grandmother...She is 94, was born in 1910 (obviously), lived through the Tsars, the 1917 revolution, Communists, Stalin, World War II, Cold War, Gorbachev, Democracy, and still going strong...if she could survive all that, we will too (hopefully that wasn't too preachy).
