2. Slavery used to be a "value" in the U.S.
I heard Jesse Jackson say that the other day.
Let's hear more of those sorts of voices and the question of values will backfire on the Republicans.

6. It may be horseshit, but it smells wonderful to me.
The Republican spin machine is already going counterclockwise on this one, saying that the "moral values vote" did not put Bush over the top (love that phrase) in the election. Which, of course, is a great way to alienate the moral values voters in their base. Moral values voters are "either/or" people in terms of issues. They don't do nuance. And they've been strung along so long by the Republicans on abortion and school vouchers and other issues that their patience (plus money and organizational efforts) must be wearing mighty thin. Especially when several Republican pundits (on FOX too, merde!) and columnists are saying that the moral values vote is a myth.

Nobody likes being called a myth.

7. I started a thread that contains this, but things are moving so fast!
Just as important as Recognizing voter fraud - Senators Kerry and Edward and the DNC need to ACCEPT and appreciate that Kerry/Edwards won the election.

The Democratic platform WAS the popular platform. We were not "off" message. We should not forsake our stances on gay rights, social reform, pro-choice, the environment or any other "liberal" left wing ideal that we believe in. There is no "moral" message, except that theft is wrong, * stole votes from Kerry, he has no morals!

Kerry/Edwards won. The voting fraud needs to be made public and the investigation pursued. The party needs to recognize that Kerry/Edwards won so that they stop trying to change and re-evaluate and reform the party and take on the DLC concepts or any right wing stance.

Get it! Now let's keep fighting to get the truth out so that the party gets it!

10. Their "Christian moral values" seem to include
lying, stealing, cheating, killing, character assassination, arrogance, vengeance, refusal to take personal responsibility for your actions or their consequences, hatred, bigotry, screwing the vulnerable and less fortunate, and making lots of money. Those are just a few that come to mind.

Call me a godless heathen, but I can live without those sorts of moral values.

saying this LOUD and CLEAR.

From Liberal Oasis:

---------------

On Nov. 4, 1992, the day after Bill Clinton beat George H.W. Bush by 5 percentage points and 202 electoral votes, this was the first thing out of Sen. Bob Dole's mouth:

57 percent of the Americans who voted in the presidential election voted against Bill Clinton, and I intend to represent that majority on the floor of the US Senate.

He finished his remarks with:

I think got some good news and some bad news last night...

...The good news is that he's getting a honeymoon in Washington. The bad news is that Bob Dole is going to be chaperone.

With that fighting attitude, the GOP stymied the centerpiece of Clinton's agenda, health care, and took over Congress in two years.

Compare that attitude with what was displayed by the lone Dem on the Sunday shows, Sen.-elect Barack Obama. From NBC's Meet The Press:

...one of the things I told the president was that we all have a stake in seeing him have a successful presidency.

I don't think that the Democrats succeed by rooting against the president in office.

13. NO, There's Lots Of People Who Are Quite Liberal At Heart But
only ever hear the GOP talk about Family Values.

And since the Democrats (except for Wes Clark) are too stupid to realise that it's not JUST the economy, stupid... people vote for the GOP.

YES, it's empty rhetoric on the GOP's part.

But why don't Democrats emphasize how our agenda is, in fact, more in line with Spiritual Teachings?

17. So true... So true...
Pete

Agreed! It's simply not about moral values. The more I read about this the more incensed I get.

We all need to keep shouting from the roof tops on this subject. Bush has done nothing to help the families who are struggling under his administration, yet the claim is that the Bush campaign sold them "family values"? What family values? Poverty... no money for food, clothing, rent, higher education for children!

It's a crock!
