While I recognize the value of having a discussion forum to hash out issues concerning Democratic strategy (especially during this emotional time), I personally have been distracted from doing important work for our cause by getting involved in arguments here on DU.
In my case, it's the "Christians Suck!/No We Don't!" threads popping up everywhere like mushrooms after a rain. I'm a Christian and I've wasted hours trying to explain that we're not all moronic bigots. I'm thick-skinned and have good sense of humor, so I'm not crying "foul!" so much as realizing it's pretty much a waste of time for me to continue. So this Christian (and hardcore liberal) is taking the invitation to "fuck off" to heart and will do so posthaste. :-)
I know, don't let the door hit you on the way out. But I'm not really leaving in huff, I'm leaving to do what I consider more important work: organize Christians in my county in a liberal network. My goal is to have 300 Christian activists organized in our area by 2006 with each of them influencing a network of 20 other voters in their respective churches. In other words, I'm trying to deliver 6,000 Christian votes to progressive candidates in my county by 2006.
It's a big goal and will require a lot of effort. I probably don't have time to do this and answer insults about "my invisible friend" and my "stupid delusions" here on DU.
But as a parting shot, I challenge any and all religion-haters to mobilize the same number of votes in your area. We smug, self-righteous Christians will gratefully accept them.
Let's get going and let's start winning.
(On edit, I added a smiley to indicate that I'm being ironic, not angry.)
