Court to weigh in on evolution feud: Cobb, CO, GA (Atlanta Journal Const)
Parents sue Cobb schools for putting disclaimers in books that teach the theory:

God, here we go....Scopes II in Newt Gingrich's old district

--snip--
Enter Marjorie Rogers, a parent for whom evolution is a theory that doesn't fly. Her 2,300-signature petition decrying "Darwinism, unchallenged" prompted the school system to put evolution disclaimers on the inside front cover of the science books used in middle and high schools. And that, in turn, prompted another group of parents to file a federal lawsuit with potentially national implications.
--snip--

The trial is expected to raise these questions:

• Is Intelligent Design, a leading alternate theory espoused by many opponents of evolution, religious? Intelligent Design holds that the variety of life on Earth results from a purposeful design rather than random mutation and that a higher intelligence guides the process.

• And, if the theory is found to be religious, do Cobb's disclaimers, which don't mention religion or Intelligent Design by name, violate the separation between church and state?

Six parents have sued the Cobb school system over the disclaimers, which read, "This textbook contains material on evolution. Evolution is a theory, not a fact, regarding the origin of living things. This material should be approached with an open mind, studied carefully and critically considered." Filed in August 2002, the parents' lawsuit is backed by the American Civil Liberties Union. It contends that the placement of the disclaimers restricts the teaching of evolution, promotes and requires the teaching of creationism and Intelligent Design and discriminates against particular religions.

1. The American Taliban rears it's ugly head.
I hope that people have enough sense to see what is coming and to put it down before it's too ;late. There is no difference between Christian fundamentalists and Islamic fundamentalists. Unfortunately many Christians in this country will not see the danger in Christian fundamentalism until it is too late.

Let's hope that the courts haven't been infiltrated by by agent's of the theocracy.

2. Brain-damaged, ignorant fuckwits.
Someone needs to lock them in a small room with a large and frightening man who will repeatedly explain to them what a scientific theory is, while beating them with an oiled leather strap to ensure that it sinks in.

3. well in that case they need a lot more stickers
Gravity is a theory, not a fact, regarding the attraction of objects to each other.

Relativity is a theory, not a fact, regarding the relationship between energy and matter.

...

These people are idiots and DO NOT understand science. Why doesn't the Board of Education point that out?

Back to the Middle Ages I guess.

5. BJU
This is exactly what you will find inside the covers of the science books at Bob Jones University. (At least, such stickers were there when I was being expelled a number of years back.) It is a grand tribute to the ignorance which seems to hold sway in Cobb County. I'm an Atlanta liberal and feel I am risking my life if I venture into that county so I stay away if I can.

PS: I just looked at my subject line and realized another way it could be interpreted.

6. This month's National Geographic a MUST-READ!
"Was Darwin Wrong?" is the cover story of their November issue. It lays out, logically and elegantly, why Darwin was RIGHT.

We should send huge numbers of copies to those schools.
