folks, Bev Harris says Keith Olberman has changed his mind!
Or maybe not him, but his bosses, she says in the "five things you can do thread" that his producers have changed their mind about reporting on the voter fraud, after announcing that they WOULD!

So we all need to write to them here, right now, whatever else you're doing can wait for ONE MINUTE while you write them:

17. well what I e-mailed was something like this:
Hi -

I love your show. I think Keith Olberman is a hero.

I just found out two things:

1. That you are planning to run stories this week regarding the voter fraud - oh, excuse me, the Orwellian word for that now is "irregularities" - in the recent election.

2. Then I found out that you have cancelled these plans.

I am writing you to implore you to NOT cancel these plans.

Why in the world would you not report the biggest story to come down the pike since Watergate?

The very LEAST you can do, as responsible journalists and citizens of the planet, is to report the irregularities that DID OCCUR.

Why the hell wouldn't you?

I am deeply concerned for the future of my country and of the world.

It really seems that the vote was hacked. Exit polls are accurate. They're so accurate the UN uses them to check the validity of elections throughout the world. They have a margin of error of less than 1%.

And the only places where there were major discrepancies were in places where there was optical scanning done, and the results sent to a computer.

A computer like the one you have at home. Windows XP running Microsoft Access, hooked to a modem.

Bev Harris (of Blackboxvoting.org) has demonstrated how easy it is to hack the results of an election this way. It is ridiculously easy, takes five minutes, and leaves no trail.

We need a recount in Florida and Ohio, we need manual recount of the ballots that were optically scanned. We need it in other states as well.

This should be obvious to anyone who does ANY rudimentary research into the matter.

If you have any doubts, go to http://www.Democraticunderground.com or go to http://www.blackboxvoting.org

Thank you for listening. You guys are one of the few truthful television news outlets remaining in our country.

OK...after reading his blog from today, and just now printing it out in case it somehow gets changed or deleted....even I thought that finally this story would be lent some credibility and exposure by being on his show.

But did anybody really think that msnbc, aka ge, aka Buddy Of Shrub, would let this story be covered? If there was enough evidence to convince even an experienced reporter like Keith Olbermann that the story had legs, how could msnbc trust that he knew what he was doing?

Maybe, just maybe....it's because the story does have legs, and they could Not trust Keith to know what he was doing, lest the public actually find out the truth.

This is America, eh? Freedom of the press? Freedom? Here? In America? Yeah, right! All this does is further confirm my opinion that this country sucks, and there is really little we can do to change that, because our names are not shrub or cheney.

27. My note
I've just learned that the story on election fraud in Ohio and Florida set to air on Countdown has been canceled.

If you have any respect for what is good and decent in this world, if you have any reverence for the importance of journalism, if you have any love of democracy, you will run this story. Personally, Countdown is the only thing I can stand to watch on cable news anymore. As a student of journalism, I respect immensely Keith's independence and willingness to do the right thing - even if it's the unpopular thing.

This story can be HUGE.
America is counting on you.

Please choose wisely.

33. Correct, Keith doesn't need to stain himself with nonsense
I'm sure he will do something on voting problems including BBV soon. It is a legit issue, particularly paper trails that must be checked regardless of margin.

However, a vast majority of the early "finds" are glorified crap, like the northern Florida Dixiecrat countries that you mentioned. William Pitt was going to include them in his truthout.org article, until DUers pointed out the voting patterns to him last night.

I still have no idea why so much has been focused on Florida, when Ohio had punch cards with massive spoilage, along with the provisional ballot mess and electronic machines without paper trails.

36. So, excuse me.........
But you think there is nothing to the fact that the exit polls were so close in states with paper trails but totally off ONLY in those states that did not have paper trails? And Bush just happened to be the beneficiary in every one of those instances? And by the way, exit polls have always been very accurate, up until, oh 2000. All coincidences, I am sure.

39. Dixiecrats?
Ummm....thanks for your snide sarcastic input. But there's a hell of a lot more goin' on here than the Florida dixiecrats issue. Try addressing the discrepancies NATIONWIDE. But instead, you would rather try to explain it away by focussing on a "Possible" explanation for a couple of counties in Florida, as opposed to all the other counties in the country which showed error.

I really wish the other side would formulate a story, and quit Flip-Flopping. What is it? Are the exit polls flawed because people lied about their registration, i.e. registering Democrat but voting for Shrub. Or is it that people lied when they came out and did the exit polling, saying they voted for Kerry, when they really voted for Shrub. I mean, because that second one makes perfect sense to me. When I'm proud of who I voted for, I usually tell someone I voted for the other guy...just to throw them off. Which also buys into the THIRD explanation I heard, which is that Repub voters just were refusing to take the exit polls, and Kerry supporters were. So their samples were off, even though any halfway dimwitted statistician knows that there are lots of ways to work around that, but I guess the polling service which was being paid $10 Million by the networks....they didn't know what they were doing. And that Zogby guy didn't have a clue either, when he released a poll not even based on exit data, at 5:30 PM EST on Tuesday, which showed Kerry winning by a WIDE margin.

Something's ROTTEN in Denmark, which is where I'm afraid we have to move if we want to live in a Democracy, because we don't have one here anymore apparently. Facism is alive and well in America. Thanks for trying Keith. Strike 1 I guess. I want to believe we have a chance. I want to keep trying. But nobody seems to care, and those that do, are being suspiciously silenced. It's The Conspiracy Stupid. Just don't tell anyone.

Edited on Mon Nov-08-04 02:46 AM by juajen
Didn't I read that the candidate in Florida who called in the FBI said that punchcards that were sent to heavy democratic precincts were a different paper than the ones in heavy pug precincts? I believe he said that the paper was tough or harder to punch, making for spoiled ballots in minority and/or heavily democratic precincts. Was I dreaming? I remember something about a scientific analysis of the paper. What
is going on with that?

Dear Sirs:

I am distressed to hear from Black Box Voting's Bev Harris that you have decided not to air the vote fraud story. This has the potential to be the biggest news story since 9/11, and I think it will reflect poorly on MSNBC when the story does, as it certainly will, come to light, and it is revealed that your network had the chance to break it and killed it instead. Please reconsider what has the potential to be a major "black eye" for your network and the entire NBC family.

Sincerely,
James David Walley

42. Help! Need some critique on this letter before I post it

here goes

Mr. Keith Olberman,

I hear rumors you are backing off your stated intention to air the developing voter fraud story. I hope these rumors are baseless ... and if not I hope to convince you to buck up and go forward.

We do indeed all know what time it is. Either a) the elections were rigged and this nation is descending into the cold darkness of fascism or b) a rightfully elected President of the United States must perform his difficult duties under a shroud of suspicion that will deepen in crippling darkness for the remainder of his term.

Obviously, it is difficult to justify exporting democracy to the Arab world if the world at large perceives that democracy has fallen in here in America. Further, it would be naive in the extreme to believe that anything other than Murrow-like determination and candor in investigative journalism can repair the reputation of the nation's democratic processes. Assurances by politicians and pundits at this point mean nothing to anyone.

Fancy talk for saying, everyone over there is expecting this to be white washed, and will view that as confirmation that the evil deed was done. When the reputation of this nation falls far enough, we will see the dollar drop like a shot gunned duck. We will see economic and political alliances form against us. Never forget political alliances always contain a military component ..

To be honest with you, sir, I admit I believe this election was stolen from the people and that the rightful winner conceded defeat. But I'm hoping I am wrong. Because if this is true, then this nation obviously faces a great crisis.

If not true, it still faces a great crisis because the rest of the world is rapidly forming the opinion that, indeed, elections are being stolen in America. The implications of that prospect ... the most heavily armed of nuclear powers falling to theocratic tyranny ... is sufficiently chilling spectre that the nations of the world will mobilize against us, and deep divisions within our country will worsen.

The only antidote for this poisonous disease in the body politic is the truth, no matter how innocent or unsavory it might be.

For this reason, I urge yourself and your producers to look at this matter with unconvinced, unbiased, and probing eyes. It is vital to the nation's interest that systematic voter fraud be exposed, if indeed it occurred, or that the matter be convincingly debunked if the allegations be false.

And I hate to tell ya, man ... but this is your job. You're a journalist. This is what you are supposed to do. In either case, sticking your nose in this stink pot remains a risky proposition. But, still, it is your job, man ... you wanted it and you got it.

Remember what Ambrose Redmoon wrote: "Courage is just the realization the something else is more important than your fear." This is more important, folks. Do the next right thing.

I've seen little evidence of fraud. Here on DU last night we looked at those counties in Florida they went for Bush in 2000 and most went for Dole in 1996.

I think we need to get over this fraud issue. It's time to move on.

52. Listen
Rockydem....all of your posts just seem to be negative and not constructive. You seem intent on throwing water on issues, when the overwhelming amount of people here think that there is plenty of evidence here proving something is not right.

Let me try to explain it in english, although I'm sure it's pointless to you. This isn't an issue of a couple of counties in Florida. This is an issue on a NATIONAL scale. Many states are in question here, so by explaining to us about how a few thousand votes in Florida make sense, it does not explain the bigger picture, and it certainly does not explain the vast majority of even the various counties in Florida with descrepancies.

If you feel the need to address this on a much broader scale, then fine. But there has Clearly been a great deal of evidence to show that Much is amiss. I don't think a single one of your posts has been positive, and I can safely say that most of the people here Strongly disagree with your opinion. So why not just leave, or post on a thread where your opinion might matter. We know that you think we're full of it, so quit trying to take us somewhere we're not willing to go right now. We're obviously idiots for feeling how we do, so why bother associating with us. We're beneath you.

57. I wrote to him.
Told him I loved him and his show. Almost proposed to him but then he'd think I'm nuts.

Also told him that since he stood up to Faux, I KNOW he won't back down on this story and I thanked him ahead of time for doing it.
(never hurts to use a little 'reverse guilt') ;)

How's that for being sweet at 4am when you haven't had any sleep? :)

61. Darn. I wrote him yesterday to thank him for
his investigation (or at least mention) of possible election fraud.

64. Done - Here is my e-mail
Please keep following this story

Regardless of the outcome it is fundamental that the effort be made to make sure every vote is counted properly. For example if the numbers tighten then the idea that the president has received a mandate may make a difference in some peoples minds (though that is not very likely).

The future of our democracy is at stake in this. If these elections were somehow rigged then America needs to know. Otherwise those who rigged them will continue to do so and those who did not will try to learn how. In the end we will have divisions in America that will lead to Civil War because no one will have faith in our elections anymore.

If that happens it may be the beginning of the end.

I know it takes courage to follow thru on this because it will not be a popular thing and there may be backlash. But when will the opportunity ever again be there to make such a huge difference in the future of our country then to follow up on this with true and verifiable investigative journalism that answers the question one way or another.

As an American my hope is now with you.

67. Here's what we need to do--
if you are a regular at any other newsgroup/bulletin board site on the 'net--post there too--even if (esp. if) it's not political. Get the word OUT.
