Feingold in 2008?
What do you guys think of a Russ Feingold run? Is he a good choice? He is from the midwest but he is more liberal than most Northeastern Dems so this could hurt him. Also, should we stop running senators? I am sure they could bring up the fact that he was the only vote against the patriot act over and over.

1. my proposal the other day
was to run him as VP. Though I'm not sure I'm willing to give him up as my Senator. We'd better find somebody AWESOME to take his place!

2. That would be good
Note to DNC, if you are going to run a senator, please have one that voted against the war, too. Feingold, I believe, falls under that description

3. I think the good side
is he would be seen as someone uncorrupted, someone who is a reformer. the bad hting would be they could attack his record nonstop like they did Kerry, and Feingold is far more liberal/progressive than kerry. I think this is good though. Feingold favors campaign reform. He favors universal NONPROFIT HEALTHCARE. He voted against the war, so he would have credibility saying he is against it. I think his position on healthcare is really good, and a Dem needs lofty goals like that to attract the electorate.

5. We won't have "President Feingold" for 50 years
...we just lost to the worst performing president in history because he claims to be a born-again, and you think the red states will be swung by Sen Feingold?

We saw that America wasn't ready for VP Lieberman... it won't be ready for President Hillary, either.

Sad to say, we need to find a southern governor named Billy Bob... do any come to mind?

Maybe we can get Tom Vilsack to change his name to Stevie Ray Petty...

6. Heck Yeah.

He makes me proud to be from WI.

On the other side, repubs will view him as either A: a tool of the devil, or B: The devil incarnate.

Sorry to say that he would do worse than Kerry did down in the Red

7. The republicans will have their evangelical
christian base going spastic over any Dem we run. We would have to give up abortion, gays, stem cell research, sep of church and state, evolution ect ect and they would prob still hate us. There is about 40% of the electorate that is automatically in the GOP pocket.

8. Feingold is a great and brave man...
...and I will vote for him in 6 years like I did for the past 12, but we need to stop nominating Senators for POTUS. The American public does NOT understand how votes work in Congress and how someone can vote "against body armor for troops" an umpteen gazillion times, even though they didn't vote against it (or opposed it because there was some dumb pork project attached at the last minute). Most people just are not that clued into the workings of our government, as sad as that can be.

Feingold voted against the stupid Pogrom Act, I mean Patriot Act and stood BY HIMSELF on that vote. He is a great man, but we will never get a Senator elected, no matter how good he or she may be. And no Hillary either! God, stop it about her already! No more Senators. Get a Governor or some other high-level executive or General type.

And please NO more Senators from MA! Nothing against MA, but we are 1-4 over the last 24 years.

11. what does Hillary have to do with Russ Feingold?
Hillary kicked ass when her husband fucked interns. She earned my respect and will always have it.

14. She's the prominent candidate of choice...
...for discussion on the blogs. She won't win. The Repugs would LOVE to run against her.

10. Good idea...Feingold has Republican appeal!
Believe it or not, Feingold got alot of Bush voters to vote for him in Wisconsin. He does this because he has an independent streak in him that many Republicans like. He doesn't come off as an "establishment dem" like Kerry does. I would like to see a Bob Graham/Russ Feingold ticket in 2008. We would win Florida, and Wisconsin for sure, and our fight would be much easier in the South and the Midwest.

He got more votes than either Kerry or Bush.

Plus he's relatively moderate on gun control as well. IIRC he decided not to bake the AWB.

13. I "love" Sen. Feingold
And would be more than happy to vote for him as President.

He led the fight against the FMA and voted against the Patriot Act.

15. won't matter who we run in 2008 . . .
if the whole voting system remains in the hands of Republican corporations with Dominionist CEOs . . . we could run Jesus Christ himself and we'd still lose if BBV is fully enacted throughout the nation (as it will be by 2006) . . .

17. just another conservative myth?
all voters become more conservative with age

In 1991 the person I most wanted to run in the Democratic primaries was Senator Sam Nunn. I supported Tsongas because Clinton was too liberal for me on the economic issues. In 2000 I supported Bradley in the primaries because I felt Gore was too conservative on the economic issues. In 2004 I voted for Kucinich because he voted against the Iraqi War resolution, unlike John Kerry.

Now Russ Feingold is my top Democrat for President..because he cast the only vote in the Senate against the Patriot Act and his work on campaign finance reform. This Republican Congress and two Bush administrations have only succeeded in driving me out of conservative politics!
