Bet you a million bucks Bush puts a Hispanic Fundy up for Supreme Court
to create a wedge between Hispanics and Democrats and to bring more Hispanics to the Republican Party. So we need to do a pre-emptive strike and let everyone in the US know this is coming!

3. It will likely be Alberto Gonzalez....
WASHINGTON - (KRT) - White House counsel Alberto Gonzales, a Texan and confidant of President Bush, is suddenly the focus of intense speculation that he will be Bush's choice to fill a Supreme Court vacancy when it arises.

Although there is no immediate opening, Bush's election victory and the illness of Chief Justice William Rehnquist have focused observers' attention on the near certainty of one or more openings in the next four years.

And Gonzales, 49, makes everyone's short list of Supreme Court prospects.

"We certainly think that he would be a wonderful pick for the president to make," said Brent Wilkes, executive director of the League of United Latin American Citizens. "We would love to see a Hispanic on the Supreme Court."

Hispanic organizations are already mobilizing in support of what would be the first Latino appointment to the court.

6. Horror of all horrors
We cannot let this guy get on the Supreme Court. No way, no how. This is the guy who wrote up the 2-3 page death penalty briefs in Texas, omitted all kinds of pertinent information, had no problem executing the retarded or mentally ill. 150+ executions, full steam ahed. Ack, we can't get this guy.

7. Conservatives don't want him...
He's not 'scalia' enough for them.

he's given some pro-choice rulings and seems to be somewhat pro-affimative action.

8. True...blacks tried to stop Uncle Clarence Thomas...
but they railroaded his ass into the Supreme Court anyway. CONservatives want something that LOOKS diverse but still retain their fascist line of thinking.

As far as a wedge - look for one to divide blacks from Latinos.
