I like my politics, and my government, secular. For those promulgating
the idea that the answer for the Democrats is to thump our Bibles harder, forget it. I don't wan't a religious political party.

The answer is to abandon tolerance for gay people? Forget it.

The answer is to become "neutral" on abortion rights? No sale.

(One of the things I thought Kerry did GREAT on was making it clear he was an unequivocal defender of Roe v. Wade in Debate #3.)

I'm not at all convinced that such moves are in any way necessary for victory (eliminating BBV or giving it accountability is MUCH MORE IMPORTANT), but even if they were, I reject it. If the prevailing belief in the country is such that secular government CANNOT WIN because the country has become so intolerantly Christian, then I simply must disown this country and move to another, more tolerant country.

I don't think that even the questionable popular majority from the election result demonstrates that such moves must be embraced by the Democratic Party.

4. The point is not to BECOME them....but to use their language AGAINST
them...ie..demonstrate how Democratic policies are MORE MORAL that their crap. Kerry started it when he talked about "walking the walk" ...it was a good start, but it has to be developed.

You can frame a lot of issues in this way...Is it moral to deny a decent eduation to poor kids? Is it moral to poison the environment so that those little fetuses that you champion are damaged??

That's the way to use religion...to stick it in the eye of the cultists who really don't have a clue about what it's all about...

5. Using Language AGAINST THEM? I Am Tired Of This Us versus Them
Edited on Sat Nov-06-04 11:59 PM by cryingshame
dualistic, reptilian thinking.

"Stick it in their eye"?

How about using Language & Symbols to PERSUADE.

To win minds and hearts.

To reach out to those who use a different jargon.

Morality and Ethics and Spirituality are about UNITY not divisivness and being vindictive.

The goal is not to exterminate but to transform.

And as for the few top agitators on the Right... make them irrelevant.

6. The issue with the Democratic party
resides in the fact that we are too inclusive by our very liberal nature. We can never be as hostile or fanatical as the siickening fundy Republicans. As they purge their tent of the RINO's (Republican In Name Only...or Moderate Repubs) we open ours. We must keep it open. It is only a matter of time before their tent implodes, and the backlash against them results. Despite how we feel today, I honestly think it's true. We must remain open to all, but more focused on our liberal ideals. Show the country what the US would be like without liberals...it is not a country worth having.
