Why does the institution of marriage even matter anyway?
explain to me, whichever of you lurking freeps sees this, how marriage is threatened by committed people being recognized for what they are, and allowed to marry. how about this, instead- do away with the concept of 'marriage'? If people want to be in a loving, committed relationship, they sure as hell can- just no need for it to be defined by the courts.

1. I just moved out of SW OK / N TX to N CA...I don't get it either
The divorce rate in Comanche County, Oklahoma - BIBLE BELT - was 75% the last time I checked. And they have lots of single teenage mothers there, too.

If they want to protect marriage, why not outlaw divorce?

It just proves that all those Bush supporters are hypocritical idiots.

3. Maybe we should put that on the ballot the next time around
And maybe making adultery a crime, too. That would scare the shit out of these hypocrites since they have a higher divorce rate in these Bible belt states and they have quite a few "Christians" cheating on their spouses.

Sanctity of marriage, my ass.

4. LOL
That is an EXCELLENT idea. I would love to see illegal divorce on the ballet. That would definitely show their hypocrisy.

5. Maybe that should be the focus now, while everyone
is still crowing about how America just voted their "values"
How do you call a special rererendum? Any lets got some adultery laws on the books - with teeth, fines, penalties and jail time.

Lets see them vote their "values" again and prove that they aren't just bigots after all.

6. IMO, the "institution" doesn't matter, but the word does
It was used by the repukes to get us to talk about "GAY marriages" insteda of talking about "equal rights for all". And true to form, as soon as the repukes starting about gay marriage, liberals followed right along and started using the repukes language instead of our own.

In war, the side that wins is usually the one that got to pick the place where the battle would be fought. We have to stop ceding that decision to the repukes.

7. I've wondered that as well
I will never understand why any two people who want to get married should be denied that right.

It isn't as if by denying the right of same sex couples to get married they are going to split up and find someone of the opposite sex to get married to. :eyes:
