since when is Mario Cuomo's opinion relevant?
MARIO: I'D JUMP ONTO HILL PREZ BANDWAGON
By FREDRIC U. DICKER

FORMER Gov. Mario Cuomo, who last month urged Al Gore (news - web sites) to run for president, now says he'd gladly back Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (news - web sites) if she decides to seek the Democratic presidential nomination.

<snip>

His initial call for Gore to get in the race was widely viewed in Democratic circles as a shot by one of the party's elder statesmen at liberal front-runner Howard Dean, the former Vermont governor who is viewed as unelectable by many party leaders.

His new statement on Clinton is expected to be read that way, as well, some party insiders said.

2. 1) the source is the NY Post
Maybe he said those things, but it was certainly framed in the worst light.

2) In his prime Cuomo was the most electrifying speaker any Democratic National Convention ever saw.

3) He was a great gov.

3. I have no doubt he said those things
as you said, "in his prime…" which is long past.

and I agree he was a great governor, a long time ago.

4. 1) Gore is more liberal than Dean
and please don't repeat Clintons record to define Gore.

2) Mario is a long time loyal democrat, people do care what he thinks.

5. It's amusing when kids that just discovered something called politics
think the world has just begun. Obviously, some people think people like Mario Cuomo existed in some distant dimension that no longer matters because it was before they discovered this thing called politics.

Such are newbies. You gotta live with them. They'll learn, eventually. Hopefully.

8. I care what he thinks...
As a longtime Democrat and someone 'in-the-know', he has a lot of great insight to offer. I respect this man.

9. Ok, I grew up in NYC
My school years were from 1981 to 1992 in the South Bronx. Please refresh my memory, what did Cuomo do that was so positive?
Keep in mind that Giulani didn't do anything positive. He benefitted off of Clinton's crime bill.

13. One thing leaps to mind:
He kept NY capital punishment free despite constant pressure to dumb NY down.
