ATTENTION CALIFORNIA VOTERS.. was their a paper trail or not?

I have some idiot repuke telling me that there was no paper trail.

"You don't live in, nor voted in Ca. and don't know what you are talking about.

I received no such paper trail, just this sticker and my ballot pamphlet, and neither did anyone else in the 100+ line or anybody else who voted here."


Is this true or not?

nobody in America EVER gets a "paper trail" of their votes for themselves to keep - too much room for fraud (somebody could pay you to vote a certain way if you could prove you did.)

However, MOST of the state used a paper-balloting system. The ballots all exist. A few counties used touch-screen voting.

5. In my county, we have a paper ballot

that is scanned into a machine, so there is a source document to count in case of a problem. Also, about half of the voters vote absentee, which are also scanned. Anyway there are ballots that can be hand counted if there is a problem.

16. Touch screen - No paper receipt, but I took pictures of every screen

so I could have my own receipt. As for his premise that you would have to throw out all e-type voting, tell him this. It's not the e-voting per se, it's the cross evidence that points to fraud and I have no problem having any/all machines opened up here in Cali and they should have the same committment to the machines in Ohio, unless they think there's something to hide.

18. One Theory Goes Like This...

If there was voter fraud, and vote theft on a massive scale, they would want to make sure they got the electoral votes of a couple of very crucial states. In this case, Florida and Ohio.

But in order to seal the 'legitimacy' of this vote, they would want to make sure that the popular vote goes to Bush as well, unlike last theft.

So... you siphon off enough votes from solid Kerry states to put Bush over the top in the popular vote, without anybody catching on.

They wouldn't be able to steal California or New York outright, without causing major suspicion. But they could skim a few hundred thousand votes to add to the final total without raising an eyebrow.

I think that's how it goes.

No paper trail that I know of. But Orange County typically votes republican.

Don't know how it voted this time because I haven't watched or read about the news since Tuesday.

Easily, IMO, the BEST system for voting. Computerized *and* a paper trail that the voter actually created.

1.Some counties used optical scan ballots.
2.Absentee ballots were optical scan. (My choice since my county went to touch screen.)
3.Some counties were touch screen (but no verifiable paper record). You could, however, request a paper ballot if you were in one of those counties. (Orange county, a Republican county, went to a great deal of effort to deny the use of paper ballots from what I've read. You had to really insist upon a paper ballot, they didn't offer them.)

Paper verifiable ballots with touchscreen machines are supposed to go into effect in 2006.

I voted "touchscreen" and received nothing. I used a card similar to an ATM, and handed it in to the poll worker, who gave me a sticker. While I stood in line, a woman went to a segregated voting booth and voted with a paper ballot. My husband pointed her out. Were these available in Ohio and Florida? If they're available in all the states, all Dems should ask for them in all elections.
