Hate Radio: How do we overcome that 24/7 Ad of misinformation?
Misinformation and lies spread 24/7 brainwashing the American people?

How can we win with that free 24/7 right wing advertising of lies and distortion?

It will be extremely difficult to win if they are allowed to continue.

I am amazed Democrats have not launched more lawsuits against their lies/distortions and defamation of characters like what they do daily to Clinton.

1. You just answered part of your own question......
We have to label it "HATE RADIO" and repeat this description every chance we get.

Every time one of our pundits gets up on camera they have to repeat this mantra.

Over and over until people mnake the connection.

2. I feel so strongly that "hate radio"
is the fountain head of the right wing's ability to manipulate wide swaths of the electorate that I think we should make it a priority to attack it and do them one better.

AAR is good start, but compare 44 affiliates with Limbags what 1500+ plus all the hannitys and becks and savages and we have a lot of work to do.

It will be tough but not impossible.

We need talent that is PISSED OFF and entertaining.

3. Hate Radio is UN GODLY
we need a big bumper sticker and t-shirt campaign
Hate Radio IS UNGODLY in front or back..
and God is loving on front or back..

Take the RW and use its own tactics against it.

4. Keep supporting AAR and it's sponsors
That is how. We need to build up this station until it covers the nation.

6. It's accountability...
Howard Stern gets fined $500,000 for saying titty, but the right-wing wacko radio hosts can say that Kerry was going to ban the Bible, was a war criminal, etc. and they are not held accountable.

9. It's not really hate radio--it's entertainment, kinda like
Edited on Fri Nov-05-04 03:47 PM by Ewan I Bushwackers
pro-wrestling.

It's a distraction. Don't take the bait.

10. Its NOT just entertainment
IT is an unpaid 24/7 365 day unpaid political advertisement.

Plain and simple.

Look at how apoplectic the repukes get when the NYTs runs a story that simply asks questions of the chimperor or his policies, while we allow that 24/7 365 anti democratic screed to continue unabated.

It is a major source of their power.

11. Also the pro wrestling inference
is revealing.

While you or I might find Hate Radio or Wrasslin idiotic, there are masses of people who think both are part of "Murica" and entirely relevant.

Unfortunate but true.

13. The pro-wrestling reference is not as revealing as you think.
Edited on Fri Nov-05-04 04:31 PM by Ewan I Bushwackers
I happen to like country music, FYI, and horse-racing, and other forms of entertainment that my liberal friends sneer at.

These forms of entertainment ARE part of Murka (just like baseball). And they are relevant.

But they are still simply entertainment. And we can easily provide "liberal" entertainment (a la Jon Stewart) that also furthers a political message.

It's ALL theater. Unlike Crossfire, e.g., I don't believe Rush goes so far as to hold himself out as a legitimate news source. I do not believe he contributed to Bush's campaign. Neither did Ann Coulter that I am aware of. They are simply making money by catering to the fans of one team on the political baseball field.

They are caricatures of themselves. Cartoon characters--which is why they get away with pressing the legal envelope.

15. You are missing their actual relevance
Wether or not Limbag or evil Ann bill themselves as news outlets is irrelevant. Many people look to them as a news source, trusting their spin over real hard news ala the NYT or WP.

It doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out what they are doing, all you have to do is listen to Rush for 5 minutes---he basically takes a news story--any news story--and tells his listeners:

A. I will explain what this means.

B. Do not trust the main stream "liberal" media.

C. Repeat adnauseum.

This serves the dual purpose of subverting the peoples confidence in the real media while promoting an exclusively right wing view of the world.

16. I don't think I'm missing their relevance....
They are exercising their right to free speech. The answer is to counter with speech of our own. If we want, we can be as ugly as Coulter and Limbaugh. Or we can take other (not illegal) action to silence/defund/discredit them.

Alternatively, we can choose a different route, i.e., saying what must be said to energize our own side.

12. Long-Term Goal--Re-Enact Equal Time Rule
Our long-term goal should be to re-enact the "equal time" regulation that kept these talk shows to a minimum and kept public discourse at a civil level. The more I listen to talk radio, the more I think as it is now, it's likely to be a major cause for the death of the Republic.

14. THIS is my BIG ISSUE!!!!...
sorry for shouting - but you nailed it!

I know so many repugs who are not fundies - they hate that shit!!! But it's all about supporting the troops, gays this, guns that. And their news - FAUX!!!

Hubby and I decided tonight we are going to calmly ask his repug parents to please, take their only grandchildren into consideration and please turn off Faux and Rush for one month. Only get their news from AP. They have to listen or we will not be visiting them. THIS IS TOO BIG for us. I will not have my children exposed to this shit.

I really think they will - they are not bad people. They are just being fed all the crap - all day long!!

20. We are learning - got AAR and need to keep growing.
It's the way to get our message out there. There is nothing wrong with talk-radio. They have made theirs LYING HATE RADIO and we will dish the truth - I think truth will win out in the end. IT just makes sense to people, just give them time. Alreasy lots of Republicans are calling up progressive radio - if not just because they are curious.
