To those of you who live in BLUE states....
Edited on Thu Nov-04-04 01:18 PM by Claire_beth
I envy you so much! I am in a red state (TN) and worked so hard to see it go blue. I really thought it was possible....I talked to hundreds and hundreds of people during the past year trying to educate them about the importance of this last election. I know I got Kerry several votes but some people you just can't talk to because they won't listen. It is embarrassing to live in a red state when you know how those in blue states feel along with most of the world. I have considered moving to a blue state but after talking to all my liberal friends, we decided we are in better use here where we can continue to TRY to make these idiots see the error of their ways. Just know that we are not ALL redneck idiots.

1. maybe its time to move
before the culture war starts up!

I was starting to hate San Francisco because it is so expensive but now I think it is worth the extra money to live in a liberal stronghold!

How about this one:

Only the blue states are represented.

2. Of course not
I'm in Virginia here so I know how you feel

The thing is my precinct did go blue and more and more parts of my Northern Virginia county are going blue every year. As Northerners move south for tech jobs, they move to areas that are traditionally red. You'll see, it might happen near you.

31. Couldn't wait to move back to NY
I don't know about how long Northerners are staying though. We moved to North Carolina (Raleigh-Durham area)from upstate NY three years ago. We moved back to NY within 5 months...it really felt like we moved to a different country altogether. Very alienated. It felt so good to be back in NY! We could not imagine raising our two year-old (at that time)son in such a bigoted, close-minded culture. I really feel sorry for, but greatly admire, you guys who live among the red-bloody fundies. We couldn't do it.

3. Come North and Join Us
Get out of the red--show your true colors. True grass-roots movements need you. We'll succeed, one city, one state at a time. In the school boards, in the town halls, in the statehouses.

12. You're right about the one state at a time, but wrong on the move north!
The yankees have to move to the RED states!!!! I'me a domn yankee since 1987, and I am convinced that there is NO WAY to change the locals. The only way I see to change the south is for enough yankess to move there.

19. Move to a Red State? I'm aggravated enough already
I live just outside NYC and I'm aggravated by how many Bushies lurk out here, I could never live in a red state. We have family in South Carolina- I have no idea how they live there they are liberal Jews and they are in Columbia. If they were in CHarleston, it would be better for them, but Columbia is a hole.

any red states left! You would have enough blue people around you that you could ignore the fundies!

6. Believe me, there are plenty of rednecks in the blue states
"Pennsylvania is Pittsburgh and Philadelphia with Alabama in between". It's actually more of a rural/metro thing.

Thanks for not taking folks seriously when they were venting about red states yesterday - understand that it's just that - venting and scapegoating, and that we understand that southerners or midwesterners or Christians in general are not "idiots".

I do believe * voters are idiots though.....

I live in Illinois
so I have a new senator! I am not gloating, that would not be cool. I am offering you hope. We saw the rise and fall of the republican party in my state in the last 4 years. George Ryan did to our state what * has done to the country. He went out in disgrace and ruined the republican party in Illinois. You know the republican party in Illinois is worthless if the best they can come up with is Allan Keyes! Don't lose the faith, your state will turn around.

Edited on Thu Nov-04-04 01:24 PM by leftyandproud
moving to a state alone doesn't guarantee you'll be away from freepers...you need to look for a small concentrated area of progressives, like san francisco.

Square miles of counties won:
Bush -- 3,280,000
Kerry -- 741,000

Population (2003) of counties won:
Bush -- 150,900,000
Kerry -- 103,600,000

Look at Illinois. Chicagoland is grey (uncounted). The rest is mostly red. Look at California. Come ON... that map is total BS. There's no way Illinois is that red.

and anyway there are some really wonderful rednecks that love Kerry too......willy nelson and the dixie chicks to name a few! red state, blue state makes no difference...i live in a totally repuke area of upstate NY and my 12 year old daughter started a "kids for Kerry" club in her school and there were only 4 of them...she came home crying yesterday because even the teachers laughed at her...i hate repukes regardless of the color of their state!

in 350 square miles there are only 13 of us Liberals

It's a bit chilly in the winter, but it's reliably Blue, notwithstanding the efforts of a weaselly little governor. We even picked up more seats in the state legislature. I'd encourage Democrats to go buy parkas and warm boots and move here so we can defeat our evil senator Norm Coleman in '08.

17. Don't feel bad...
You tried. There are 'blue people' all over these red states. Look at the margins of victory for Bush in most of these states - not that big! And quite frankly, Kerry's margin of victory in our states was not that big. The difference is, it's difficult to beat the christians in the red states and it's difficult for them to beat the people who can read and write in the blue states.

I live in California, but moved here from Columbus, Ohio. Just want to point out that Kerry won in Columbus. It's all about the rural evangelical vote.

And I'm planning on heading up to New England or New York within the next year. I'm originally from the north, but my parents moved us down when I was very young. I've been going to college here too, and I just can't take this any longer.

33. I feel for you Claire_beth
I used to live just to the north in Kentucky. Everyone I met were wonderful but I always felt that many of the people were not interested in bettering themselves whether it be more education, trying new things, etc. This attitude made my job a bit more difficult. I put in long hours that effected my family life while not getting anywhere and suffered mild bouts of depression. 1.5 years ago, I took a pay cut and moved to northern Minnesota and have been happier ever since.

If you have family and friends that can help you stick it out than stay, But if not, come to Minnesota, we'll keep the heat on for you. ;-)
