The PURPLE nation

I have modified the electoral map to scale red & blue values by the proportion of votes each received in each state. I ignored Nader. The white speckles don't mean anything, they're just a side effect of the JPEG file compression.

The nation is pretty purple - perhaps the winner take all system skews the perception, eh?

2. All we really need
is for all the dems from Idaho,Wyoming, Nebraska, & Kansas to move to Missouri, Wisconsin, Iowa & Arkansas..

That would help us A LOT..

Come on people.. It's not THAT far :)

3. Great idea! I always thought the electoral vote should be split for a
state that is divided 49%/50%.

6. That is a fair question
I wonder how much better it would be if we kept the Electoral college, but ended the winner take all phenomenon--you got a percentage of electoral votes based on how many votes you got.

Still doing away with it entirely might be the best idea.

4. This map makes me a bit prouder....
...of the south. I kinda lost respect for a lot of those states, but I can see that a lot of them had a ton of Democratic voters. Nice!

5. I must admit
I saw a map like this somewhere after the 2000 election - it's someone else's idea first :-)
