CBS Poll - 38% of those surveyed will probably vote for *............
Edited on Mon Sep-01-03 12:57 PM by alcuno
and 50% say they will probably vote for a Democrat. MSNBC just reported, but it's not up yet at pollingreport.com. When it is it will be here....

http://www.pollingreport.com/wh04gen.htm

On Edit: It seems that good news for Democrats often gets mixed up at pollingreport.com. This is the CBS News poll. 775 registered voters surveyed between Aug 26-28.

4. Mistake to survey people
They should be asking the Diebold machines who they intent to vote for instead.

7. Clarification
It's hard to remember exaclty what one hears on TV, but here is what CBS is actually reporting, and it's a big difference from "50% say they will probably vote for a Democrat":

"When all voters were asked whether President Bush will definitely be re-elected, 38 percent said yes, but 50 percent said they think a Democrat can win."

9. I agree that is different. Are they softening the blow?
When I heard Craig Crawford talking about it he said the "probably voting for" line. The question they actually asked is about "probaby voting for...."

18. The poll shows 33 percent for Bush, 27 percent for the Dem
and A LOT of undecided people. Still, I think it's significant 50 percent think a Dem can win. That means Bush's aura of invincibility is evaporating.

20. That was the August 3, poll. The new one says 38% to 50%.
Dems went from 27% to 50% since August 3?

22. I'm pretty sure 8/03 means August 2003
not Aug. 3. There was no CBS poll done on Aug. 3.

24. Aaagh! You are right. But this poll was released 9/1
Besides. Where are the 38% - 50% numbers? I still say it's this question.

8. I am probably mistaken here but I thought the question was...
Edited on Mon Sep-01-03 12:37 PM by NNN0LHI
...do you "think" Bush will be elected which equaled 38% or do you "think" a Dem which equaled 50% will be elected. I seen it too and have been looking for the poll results and can't find them. But my impression was thet the word "think" was used rather than who would you vote for. Have to wait to see the poll. Still good results though the question seemed kind of strange to me. I hope you heard right and I heard wrong.

10. This morning on CNN
Heidi Collins reported that the CBS poll indicated that 35% of Democrats don't know who the Democratic candidates are!! Now that is shocking.

12. Hi Tahoe Mom, I think it's worse than that.
I believe that 35% of Democrats KNOW who the candidates are and 2/3 don't. I'm sure that by November 2004, they'll have it figured out.

11. I provided the link.
and the strange thing is that it is the most recent poll (Aug 26-28) but the latest results they have listed are 8/3. The question asks "probably vote for..."

14. Plenty of room
This just proves that there is room for another candate. "Who would you like to see the Democratic Party nominate as its presidential candidate in 2004"

Other is winning with 15%. Undecided is 32%.

15. My mother a Republican for life told me last night she would vote for...
...a Dem for the first time in her life if Hillary would run. I explained to her that she was not running, and she just said "you never know"? I agreed with her.

16. Every week I hear from Republicans who dislike Bush
Edited on Mon Sep-01-03 01:20 PM by Woodstock
One guy at work I had never talked politics with is I'd say 55, and has been a Republican for life. Last week he said Bush is doing a terrible job, and under his administration the country is going downhill. He went on and on about all of the things he didn't like - and his list mirrored mine. Then he went on to name several Democratic candidates he admired. And there are others who feel the same way. This is very encouraging.

There are still a few uninformed delusional ditto heads who will go down with the ship no matter what Bush does, but I'm encouraged by the ones who have changed.

It really needs to stop being about personality and being about ideas. Loyalty should not be to politicians, but to fellow citizens.

21. Meaningless Polls
Polls that pit a real person against an unnamed opponent are meaningless. They tell you virtually nothing about how people will vote in a real election with two real people on the ballot.

the more those go up, the better shot any Democratic candidate has. His disapproval numbers are close behind his approval numbers right now at Pollingreport.com
