Potential backlash. Hear me out please.
Edited on Thu Nov-04-04 12:00 AM by coloradodem2004
When talking to someone at school today, he said that it will be tough, but the Republicans are too self-righteous to keep this shit up. And in a way this could be good for the Democrats. It will tell them to get their shit together and now, the Republicans cannot blame them for everything that goes wrong. THey have control. So, it is now on their heads. To add to that he seemed certain that based on this, we would win the Presidency in 2008. Please, no talk about no free elections. But, look what happened in Colorado this year. I never thought we would have both legislative branches in Colorado. But it happened here. We can tie Bill Owens's hands for the last two years of his term. We elected Ken Salazar, which was not all backlash, but I think that it played into it a little, and the same for John Salazar. We passed every amendment and referendum that would have required a tax increase. We passed the FasTracks. Our renewable energy amendment 37. The Colorado Democrats are back. It's horrible what has happened, but this cannot go on much longer. People will wake up. The question is, how much longer will it take?

1. Things have to get worse before people wake up
And they will. It's almost poetic justice that Bush has to deal with the mess he made in Iraq, instead of handing it off to Kerry, and there will be other flashpoints. Good jobs will continue tio disappear, more people will lose health insurance...

At some point we'll reach critical mass, but when the number one thing on people's minds is gay marriage, we're not there yet.

12. That's why I say it's time we help make them MUCH worse.
I want to get the meme out to the rest of the world that for four years Bush has told the world "Fuck You." Yesterday, the Americans joined in the chant to the rest of the world with their own Fuck You.

Across the world people must begin to pass by the McDonalds, Pizza Huts, Fords and GMs. When business begins to get the message, Bush will shortly thereafter get it. I've always tried to buy American. Now I will go out of my way to buy French, German, Swedish, any peace loving country that kept its sanity.

2. Ground up
The party will be reconstructed from the ground up. Montana kicked out an ineffectual Republican Governor. Illinois has shored up the party against Republicans for at least a decade, and there are many more examples of how at the state level, the party is still very active, still a significant force.

We just need to create Missions to go into the South and help reconstitute the party there.

3. There was already a backlash THIS year. The votes weren't counted.
And unless we can get rid of BBV, they won't be counted next time.

4. This starts from the bottom up
Local changes are being seen at the state levels. The Democratic party got strong in western states this year. If the party performs in these states, a national turn around will be in order. People want to test the water before they jump in.

6. IL and CO are models for the rest of the party
Both are states with plenty of moderate to conservative voters.

8. Illinois itself is more Democrat, but you are right.
I hope the state dems in my state keep this up. We could get the AG's office back and the Governor's office back. In 2008, we could oust Allard or "Coors" the Republican who runs for his seat.

Obama and Salazar are the two hopes that I have for the Democrats. I did tell Ken that it was an honor to work on his campaign.

10. Dissenting opinion
The Republicans already had control of everything. They should have been held accountable for the many failures of the past four years. But their supporters join them in the Republican delusion. And it won't end. Not yet. I don't know how far it can go, but it might take a nuclear attack on the U.S. Or, that might stiffen their backs even further.

Remember, there were Japanese who didn't want to surrender after the two atomic bombs were dropped on them.

On a less apocalyptic note: fiscal bankruptcy or a depression could do it. Americans won't tolerate high unemployment or a serious decline in their material standard of living.

11. sounds like 2002
here's the problem: they will *always* blame us. hell, they blame gays for some imagined damage to "marriage." blame doesn't have to be fucking rational.

they will *always* scapegoat. and there always will be someone to scapegoat. and the fucking retarded assholes who voted for bush will always believe the bullshit.
