I am so resentful right now and many of them are heartless whiners anyway. They are so full of themselves.

I've got one guy in my office building who's big-time conservative. Everyone else is left. My family is pretty moderate/left.

She doesn't understand why we aren't friends anymore. I cannot abide hearing her rave about Shithead like he split the atom. I can only imagine how obnoxious she is about him now. No great loss. Her parents are Dems; don't know exactly where she got her Freeperness. But she lives in Kansas, after all. I don't anymore.

This is about the health and safety of America and the world.

13. Done & Done
I recently quit a very crappy job with two coworkers who loved Rush Limbaugh, and didn't know what a 'neocon' was. Man I hated those dittohead jackholes.

:-(

If you are a smart republican who didn't vote for bunnypants, then ok. but otherwise you got a lot of splainin to do!!

Old friends (husband and stepford wife) of about 15 years. Rabid 'pukes. I will never speak to them again.

My in-laws. Haven't spoken with them in at least 2 years and now they get a 4 year extension.

They'll be missed!

I can't cut my Mom and Dad out. I just can't. But the other aunts and uncles and cousins and the occasional co worker I'd share a beer with. Well, I won't make a big production out of it but I'll just let them slip away. Why should I waste my beautiful mind worrying about something like that!

11. I take votes for W personally.
I get really resentful of my Republican friends. Especially my female Republican friends. I just want to yell at them, "How stupid can you be? Don't you realize your party hates you because you're a woman?" I only have about two Republican friends I care to continue talking to... we just can't talk about politics ever.

Thank god my dad hated W enough not to vote for him this year. (He abstained.) My mom voted for Kerry, specifically to avoid my wrath. Otherwise I would have had difficulty continuing to talk to my parents. It would have been like a personal blow, like they just hated me so much they decided to destroy the future for me.

I did and feel so much better. I love the fact that my family is solidly Dem. I love the fact that my friends are as fed up as I am.

For me, the media and those who voted for shrubbie have blood on thier hands. They have either been too stupid or too evil to reject the PNAC agenda. They can go straight to hell.

15. I already have.
Some don't know it yet, but they will.

When I honestly analyzed the relationships, I realized all my repuke "friends" were friends who only called me when they needed something. Never to see how we are or just to chat or spend time with us, but only when they had their hand out.

And plus they just voted for a man whose policies hurt us all. How can I be their friend after they made that deliberate choice? You don't get to pick and choose why you vote for someone, you get the whole package deal. One of them is in favor of civil unions, but I said "oh well, you voted for someone who wants to write discrimination against gays INTO THE FUCKING CONSTITUTION, how can you vote for that?"

She had no answer.

And I have no sympathy. Bad enough we will be suffering for their mistake. Let them suffer it alone. My back is turned.

Now if the person is a Kerry voter, they have my absolute help and sympathy and friendship.

53. same here
i got one call yesterday from a friend, (who also voted for kerry) to ask how i was feeling (crappy), was i ok (no, i'm at work & can't control the crying), sorry, but look on the bright side, hillary in '08. some laughs. got a couple more calls & emails from other kerry supporters all commiserating together, plus a free massage from the guy who rents space in our office. even the paralegal who in the past has called me a "b*tch" came in to see how i was doing & was very sympathetic. which leads to...the one phone call i got from a now former "friend" who voted for shrubbie. this same para answered the call, passed it on to me, but i told her i was busy. a few minutes later, when i wasn't busy, i went to ask her what my "friend" wanted. the para said "i don't think you should call her back because when i told her you were busy she laughed & said she'd get you later." :grr: this "friend" & i had a bet, which i was intending to follow up on, but now, screw her. i might send her a gift certificate instead because i can't stand the thought of having to sit through dinner with her.

i compared notes on this "friend" with D because they work in the same office. D said this person probably called me because D threw her out of her office when she came in to gloat. we've both decided we're done with her. she always wants you to help her, but she's never around if you need something from her.

still no word from my cousin or brother & i'm not sending any feelers out there to them. i might cut off my cousin, but even though my brother is an idiot for voting for bush, if i need help, he's there.

16. My brother.
I cut my brother out of my life over a year ago. I got tired of his bullying. His greed and selfishness is sickening. He listens to Limbaugh, O'liely, and Hannity. He hates liberals just as they do. I'm a liberal and proud of it. The sad part about it is that I rarely get to see my niece and nephew.

50. Nope most of us don't believe all of that crazy shit, dumbass
Keep insisting on believing these strawmen versions of us liberals. Sure a few people on DU live up to it. God forbid, they're are people who espouse unconventional, and, yes, sometimes insane things on an internet message board. But you're too blind with hate to see that vast amount of sane, thoughtful liberals and moderates. You WILL lose, eventually, and probably by your own hand.

I bet you're proud of insane fucknuts like Coburn and Bunning. You and your friends ELECTED, you FUCKING ELECTED people like that to high government positions in our nation. Do you understand that? Your nutcases actually hold elected positions, while some of ours write message on an internet message board. So have a big cup of SHUT THE FUCK UP. You have THE MOST EMBARASSINGLY INCOMPETENT FOOL this nation has ever seen as your greates leader. Only because of extreme ignorance and a sometimes near psychotic lack of empathy have you become temporarily victorious.

Just fucking do it already. They need to know that we are utterly offended at their stupidity. I have flat out told people that as long as they support the idiot they will have no relationship with me. At work I won't even look at them when they talk to me and they know why. I was jogging by the house of a family friend the other night when I noticed 3 brand spanking new */Cheney signs on their yard - I only talk to this family about once a week yet I had no idea they supported the idiot. But as soon as I found out I left a short note in their mailbox explaining that I've lost all respect for them and that when I don't wave back to them it's not because I don't see them. Fuck those idiots. They need to know that their support of that smirking, murdering, little shit is not something that you take lightly.

21. I thought about it

But I am going to offer my family members and some close friends who aren't total nutjobs an opportunity to "mend fences", after I've had a week or two to cool down.

I am going to tell all of them the same thing. If we are to continue to have any kind of relationship, they are going to have to meet me halfway. I will not be ridiculed, dictated to or marginalized because I am a liberal. They MUST respect the fact that this is supposed to be America we live in and that I am fully entitled to my thoughts and views whether they like them or not, and as much as I despise their views, I will show them the same courtesy. I am not interested in hearing what Limbaugh, Hannity or Ann the Mann have to say about me or other liberals.

If they can't respect me that much, they can stay the hell out of my life. I think it is a fair deal, as fair as I can come up with at this point. I don't want to let the RW machine destroy all my relationships if I can help it, but ultimately it will be up to them.

and anything that helps us do this is worth consideration.

Find meaning where you can. Limit the aggravation unless the aggravation is compensated by more important gains.

I have very few Republican friends and I don't plan to spend much time cultivating them. I plan to spend the next four years nurturing my family, myself and my community and working in quiet ways to undo the harm that has just been done.

Spending time with Republicans doesn't figure in my survival agenda.

29. Me too. I'm drawing the line. I'm beyond resentful.
I feel like Republicans just gave a collective middle finger to the spirit of all that America stands for.

They made their choice. They have that right. But the consequence is that I want nothing to do with them. This includes family members. It makes me sad, but this isn't politics anymore, it's humanity. People are dead for a lie. Hundreds of thousands of people's lives have been absolutely destroyed. Bush's buddies have made billions from it. We know it, they know it. Instead of doing something to make it better, they voted for Bush thanks to the anti-gay marriage amendments. It's what got them to the polls and we all know it. It's unforgivable.

I'm not giving up on America. I'm just choosing not to be associated with the hateful Republican parasites that have no real regard for humanity. If that's wrong on some level so be it. Again, I'm drawing the line.

I'm finding that I never really had much in common with any of my few Repbublican friends anyway. While we might've pursued some activities together, our conversations were so shallow that I won't miss a single one of them. The funny thing is, for each of the ones I'm cutting out of my life, I've picked up some great new acquaintances to replace them, liberal ones, people I can talk to and relate to, and all because of this election. I guess something good had to come out of it.

My sister has her only son in Iraq getting shot at each day and she voted for Bush again. She's frightened for her son but still votes for this war criminal. May her son remain for years overseas. She's also on welfare using all the services that Democrats have provided over the years. she makes me sick---will not be sending her anymore money or help. her husband was in the Marines during the Korean War and shot prisoners---what a criminal asshole---listens to Rushballs all the time. Serious depression in her side of the family. May they rot in hell.

42. I don't think that's a good idea.
I have mixed feelings between wanting to give them hell and wanting to stay friends with them.

Here's the thing. Not communicating with them has gotten us nowhere all these years. Marching down the street and screaming at counter protesters hasn't made the situation better between us.

I think one of the ways to change this country for the better is to keep talking to them when we have it in us to again. We've got to try to change their hearts and minds. All conservatives are not alike. Some are just fiscal, some are just social conservatives. I think there might be a way to get through to some of them that voting for somebody like Bush in the future is wrong.

When Bush's hell comes down on us, they'll be right beside us. They'll need a shoulder to lean on, and it won't help us to push them away.

I'm resentful too, but I think we need to keep talking to them if we can.

Let's not let them chase us out of the country either. The last thing I want is a world superpower being controlled solely by conservatives.

Somehow WE have to change 3 million minds, less than 7% of their total, between now and 2008. You won't do that by giving them ALL the cold shoulder.

It's sad it's come to this, but this is far more than just different political views. These people are full of hate. They're racist bigots who want to control private aspects of your life, they don't want to pay taxes, they want to send your job overseas, they don't want you to have medical coverage, they don't want you to be free and they don't care how many in the military or civilians have to die to achieve their agenda. Even if they don't feel that way, their vote endorsed it. I have nothing but contempt for them.

62. I have alresdy started that.It isn't" official"
but it is done. I also don't want to talk to Kerry voters who think this is not a big deal and there wasn't much difference between them anyway. I am glad they voted for Kerry, and BTW they expect me to be really "gratefuL' but I don't need to hear them.
