I sent this out to family and friends today.
To the Moral Values Crowd. You lack both. God is gonna getya for that.
On to the issue: As the media has been stating and restating throughout the day, the number one issue that affected the turnout in yesterday's election was Moral Values. As 11 state initiatives banning gay marriage were a "highlight" of yesterday's election, the media and anyone else with a brain understands that the Moral Values issue and the initiatives were connected. Even it they weren't -- the issue of gay marriage has been used as a wedge issue in the last election.
It should be clear that this is directed toward the moral values crowd alone, not the recipients of this e-mail.
Thanks a lot. I feel better.
To that end, I would like to offer the following short "mea culpa"
"My Apologies to the Moral Values Crowd"
I am sorry I was born the way I am.
I am sorry I finally succumbed after 32 years and accepted myself.
I am sorry I met someone who changed my life forever.
I am sorry this person chose to love me due to my innate nerdiness.
I am sorry he is a man.
I am sorry that he stopped his education to work in order to support his family after his father died.
I am sorry that he and his then partner helped raise the daughter of one of their friends after her husband left her when she was six months pregnant.
I am sorry that they helped raise a young woman who can now write her ticket to any university in the country.
I am sorry that my partner and I took part in a charity event to gathered toys for the less fortunate
I am sorry that the toys came from other men like us.
I am sorry that the event gathered hundreds of toys, and was headlined by drag queens, who helped gather many of the toys.
I am sorry that the event was the brainchild of a man, the man who introduced my partner and I, and who died two years ago, partially from a disease that your sainted Reagan didn't mention by name until 7 years into his presidency.
I am sorry that this man's partner had the temerity to ask to be part of the funeral.
I am sorry that my partner and I bought a house to help us live the American dream.
I am sorry we contributed to the local and national economy in fixing this house.
I am sorry we hired friends and neighbors to help us in this.
I am sorry that we spend our free time working on the house, visiiting with neighbors and friends.
I am sorry that the neighborhood kids now know our house is the place to come for Halloween and Christmas.
I am sorry we take pride in our neighborhood.
I am sorry we go to Disneyworld with our in-laws to celebrate my partner's nieces birthday every Christmas.
I am sorry we occasionaly forget and call each other endearing terms in public.
I am sorry we live vicariously through our relatives' and friends' children, helping out when we can.
I am sorry that these kids enjoy coming to our home.
I am sorry that I entered the academic field where I could affect the lives of others in my teaching.
I am sorry that we donate to charities.
I am sorry that my partner and I wish to be treated equally.
I am sorry that we were born into your universe.
