PLEASE READ: Buck up, guys.
In some ways this is a good thing. Please read through all this before you flame me. I believe that even the darkest storm clous has a silver lining, and maybe we needed to lose. Those of you who can remember, think back to 1964. The Republican candidate (Goldwater) lost after an intense effort by the Republicans to pull out a win. That was the catalyst they needed to reexamine their organization and work out a winning strategy and let's face it: it worked. We needed a loss like that. A loss by a candidate who gave it his all and who we worked our hearts and souls out for. Now is not the time for infighting and strife, we must all pull together to build a true grassroots organization that can make our country a better place. In part, we have already begun. It was because we had such success in voter mobilization that Karl Rove had to struggle to bring out the Evangelical vote at the last minute. Why else do you think that "moral values" topped the list of important issues for Bush voters?

The next four years are going to hurt, but we've got to pull through. We WILL win in 2008. I've thought this through, and even the Republicans I've talked to agree. They can't think of a viable candidate the Republicans will run in 2008, but we've got Hillary, John Edwards and others. Consider that something is likely to blow up in Bush's face in the next four years that will throw the Republican party into disarray. To my mind, it's likely to be akin to Watergate (i.e. it is revealed they tampered with the election). The only way a Republican candidate could win in 2008 would be if Bush does something that is widely seen as "wonderful" and that candidate ties himself so closely to Bush that the two become inseparable. We will prevail.

Don't take that for granted, though. In the meantime, we must work extremely hard. We can learn much from the Republicans, they have a better handle on the language of politics. They distort the truth with veiled terms and have made words associated with us negative. If we can reclaim words like "liberal," we can take back our country.

Never forget this election. It is a testament to our ability to make a difference, if we only harness that power. It made me proud to be a Democrat to see so many people united behind John Kerry. He sowed the seeds for our Democratic revolution and we must honor his commitment to us and our country. I don't care what anyone says, John Kerry is a hero.

14. The right wing controlled media will NEVER give us a fair chance
The only way to fight back is to build up our own media outlets, we need over the air staions everywhere so Americans can hear our message of reason every day. Today they are far too many right wing stations that constantly repeat the same propaganda over and oaver again until it is imbedded in many people brain. It is a form of brainwashing that grows stronger every day. Move-On has the power to raise money to buy stations all over America, it is a must to get our message out to all potential voters every day.

22. media without message won't work
with apologies to Marshall.

We need a think tank to come up with stuff like their revolution did.

Remember, in 1964 conservative was a dirty word and they were very much in the minority. They set about it deliberatly. Stay on message. Do think tanks. Federalist society. Rush comes from the angry white men they created.

The country is VERY liberal when you poll on issues that have not been branded by the right.

We need to take back the media WITH our message.

what has happened in the LAST 4 years will take decades to fix. not that all of it can be fixed, you cant give back life. and who knows how much more damage will be done in the next 4 years that will take how long to repair?

5. But I thought that was 2002 and 2004
We need to stop blaming ourselves. We need to put the blame where it belongs, on the bigoted, superstitious voters who rejected us.

12. The point is, we CAN!
If we show people what being a Democrat is all about. The country is moving to a more progressive stance, but the Republicans see that as a threat and they have to lie and distort to keem themselves in power. There is no shame is assessing what we might have done wrong and fixing it, but moping won't help.

21. We did make a difference,
I have finally started hearing the numbers that show we did make a difference. Listen to the reports for how many more votes Kerry got than Gore did four years ago - everywhere.

It is not that we did not make a difference - it is just that the hatred and bigotry turned out to be a powerful motivator to increase the other side more. If the extreme right had not used anti-gay issues to motivate their voters to get to the polls (as Rove promised they would), Bush would not have won.

That issue will not be there next time - at least not in key states - because the issues all passed.

silver lining in this it's that the Repugs will have to wallow around in the stench they made. Since they seem unwilling to listen or do anything different, that stench should get pretty deep and disgusting.

Iraq will get worse. Iran will heat up. We will probably get hit with another terrorist attack and Bush will have to explain how it's not his fault even though he was the only one who could keep us safe.

If there is any justice in the world, I think he will have a nasty, miserable and stressful 4 years.
