2. I thought he was stepping down anyway
I remember hearing he was done after the election regardless of outcome.

7. Gee, he's not going to stick around
for two more years and lead us to another beating. We need someone that won't be discussing the Marquis of Queensbury rules while we're being kicked in the nuts.

3. Doesn't his term end in 2005?
I can't remember--if it doesn't, he should absolutely resign. I blame him almost more than anyone else for this . . . (Just my personal feeling)

5. He is SO done
Howard Dean is going to get to rebuild the Democratic party almost from scratch.

One of the few bright spots in this disaster.

13. I wish I had.
It just makes so much sense (which means they won't do it.)

I vow to everyone here that if Dean is not given that position I'll not be supporting the Democratic party.

If I want to lose, I'll lose with the Greens.

Time for Terry to bow out. And he should take Bob "Goose Egg" Shrum with him, too.

15. it's not his fault
the party has never been better organized and raised more money than under his tenure.

We are expecting him to do too much. The GOP is not leading the culture war, they are simply exploiting it. The Dems are effectively tapping into our side of the culture war as well. The only down side is liberals are much less organized than conservatives. Bush is not the leader of this culture war, and Rove's strength is knowing how to exploit it.

What I'm trying to say is this election has shown me that this country is embroiled in a struggle much larger than electoral politics. How do I know this? Because to red-state conservatives, serious political issues like incompetence, fiscal recklessness, and war take a back seat to anti-modern intangibles like morals (on their terms), god, and honor. Reason and results (which should be THE guiding principles in voting) are mere nuisances which can be brushed away with one-liners.

Political parties exist to provide resources and organization for political candidates, not lead cultural movements. To that end, Terry has done a very good job.
