I know Frist is retiring, is anyone else retiring as well? We need to find a few GOP senators we might be able to pick off. My fist recommendation is to run Mark Warner against George Allen.

1. If anyone is looking for a national fistfight...
Edited on Wed Nov-03-04 05:06 PM by JM
...I know with enough money, a real candidate, and one hell of a get-out-the-vote campaign in PA, Sphinctorum could possibly be excised from the Senate.

There is a reason Hoeffel did better than expected. The large turnout in PA also translated into a higher than normal number of straight-ticket voters. The same thing could happen in the mid-terms.

18. Hoeffel vs. Santorum could be better
Better to have true dem vs. right-wing nutcase than true dem vs. moderate repub.

16. Santorum vs. Hoeffel
Some say that was Hoeffel's aim all along. Given his performance against a MODERATE, he'll slam the fundie.

4. Santorum's a Nazi.
As Daschle was for the Republicans, so shall Santorum be for the Democrats. He's the perfect poster boy for the new corporate police state that we laughingly refer to as "the United States" And he needs to be takewn down as a first step.

6. Let's make it happen
Who from the Keystone State can we run against him? Ed Rendell? Anyone else? I'm from IL, not PA, so I don't really know that many politicians from around there.

11. Santorum would not be so easy - got to mobilize all of the Kerry
voters and maybe then some. He would beat the drum of the right wing hot buttons relentlessly - gay marriage, abortion, prayer in schools, tax cuts, guns, etc. It would take someone who could really stand up to Santorum's bullying. A really articulate woman might be the best choice - any Dianne Feinsteins in PA?

27. Barbara Haffer (former State treasurer) is only challenger
She's all we have now.

My list would be as follows:
Gov. Ed Rendell
State Senator T.J. Rooney
State Senator Lisa Boscola (hugely popular in Lehigh Valley and major advocate of abolishing property taxes)
Bill Cosby??

5. Snowe and Chafee are winnable for us
If they don't want to switch parties, there is no point in being nice just because they are moderate Republicans.

whole seniority on the Hill thing. BUT if you guys can run a real progressive, I will not only vote for him/her, I'll help out.

In the meantime, we will do what we can to get ranked voting here. If we want to take seats on the Hill, we gotta do it that way. Not just in Maine but every state.

19. Target the moderates first.
The only reason they got elected in the first place is because some Dems voted for them. If they see their liberal support eroding because of the Republican ties, they will be forced to become more conservative just to survive. Moderate-to-liberal constituencies will kill them.

And we might get a few defectors.

20. dont be surprised
to see the RNC go hard after them in the primaries. They target RINOs and the only reason they backed Specter over that nut that challenged him was because they wanted a moderate repub on the ballot in a swing state

14. hey, I think the creep Lott may retire
Lott might retire, because of his infamous comments about Stormy two years ago, because I read some where that alot of conservatives in MS were pissed at him for those comments, and even said that he SHOULD step down, and I'm sure those comments would be a focus of a democratic campaign..well, if I was running against him.

I would have guessed she's well into her 60s...

Yeah, it would be great to hit so close to the Bush home.

21. Corzine
could end up vacating and running for governor in NJ next year. I think the inside track to his Senate seat would fall to Bob Menendez, he'd also be favored to win too. The Jersey GOP has no rising star, with the exception of that over zealous DA, who may run for governor if Corzine doesnt. Long story short, NJ should be a safe hold.

23. hey guys, I just registered a website that I will be devoting to 2006
It will focus on the Senate races. I believe it is crucial to win the Senate in 2006 and we must get going now. The site will focus mostly on information and issues for now and I might add a messageboard. If anyone has any ideas or whats to help me, instant message me.

26. How about Lott and Santorum?
Lott's racism can still be brought to light. He's certainly far less powerful now than before.

And the close senate race in PA this time gives me hope for a re-match -- except this time against the ultra-conservative Santorum. Or maybe I'd just so like to see him go down.
