"Hope & Support"? A great reminder, PLEASE take the time to read...

Now even as we speak, there are those who are preparing to divide us, the spin masters, the negative ad peddlers who embrace the politics of anything goes. Well, I say to them tonight, there is not a liberal America and a conservative America — there is the United States of America. There is not a Black America and a White America and Latino America and Asian America — there’s the United States of America.

The pundits, the pundits like to slice-and-dice our country into Red States and Blue States; Red States for Republicans, Blue States for Democrats. But I’ve got news for them, too. We worship an awesome God in the Blue States, and we don’t like federal agents poking around in our libraries in the Red States. We coach Little League in the Blue States and yes, we’ve got some gay friends in the Red States. There are patriots who opposed the war in Iraq and there are patriots who supported the war in Iraq.

We are one people, all of us pledging allegiance to the stars and stripes, all of us defending the United States of America. In the end, that’s what this election is about. Do we participate in a politics of cynicism or do we participate in a politics of hope?

John Kerry calls on us to hope. John Edwards calls on us to hope.

I’m not talking about blind optimism here - the almost willful ignorance that thinks unemployment will go away if we just don’t think about it, or the health care crisis will solve itself if we just ignore it. That’s not what I’m talking about. I’m talking about something more substantial. It’s the hope of slaves sitting around a fire singing freedom songs. The hope of immigrants setting out for distant shores. The hope of a young naval lieutenant bravely patrolling the Mekong Delta. The hope of a millworker’s son who dares to defy the odds. The hope of a skinny kid with a funny name who believes that America has a place for him, too.

Hope in the face of difficulty. Hope in the face of uncertainty. The audacity of hope! In the end, that is God’s greatest gift to us, the bedrock of this nation. A belief in things not seen. A belief that there are better days ahead.

I believe that we can give our middle class relief and provide working families with a road to opportunity. I believe we can provide jobs to the jobless, homes to the homeless, and reclaim young people in cities across America from violence and despair. I believe that we have a righteous wind at our backs and that as we stand on the crossroads of history, we can make the right choices, and meet the challenges that face us.

2. I wanted to start a thread, but
not enough posts. Just heard Don't Dream Its Over by Crowded House and thought the lyrics were very appropriate:

Don't Dream It's Over

Written by: Neil Finn

There is freedom within, there is freedom without
Try to catch the deluge in a paper cup
There's a battle ahead, many battles are lost
But you'll never see the end of the road
While you're travelling with me

Chorus
Hey now, hey now
Don't dream it's over
Hey now, hey now
When the world comes in
They come, they come
To build a wall between us
We know they won't win

Now I'm towing my car, there's a hole in the roof
My possessions are causing me suspicion but there's no proof
In the paper today tales of war and of waste
But you turn right over to the T.V. page

Hey now, hey now
Don't dream it's over
Hey now, hey now
When the world comes in
They come, they come
To build a wall between us
We know they won't win

Now I'm walking again to the beat of a drum
And I'm counting the steps to the door of your heart
Only the shadows ahead barely clearing the roof
Get to know the feeling of liberation and relief

Hey now, hey now
Don't dream it's over
Hey now, hey now
When the world comes in
They come, they come
To build a wall between us
Don't ever let them win

Now, I'm not saying its an anthem or anything, but it made me feel better.

3. Obama -- the one bright spot in an otherwise dark night
His election to the Senate gives me hope (something I'm in dire need of today).

4. I did read, as you asked. Now, I ask you to read this:

Read what those of us who are isolated from all of you are thinking and feeling.

Try to imagine being in our shoes.

8. And I DID read that thread...
I was tempted not to because of you and your numerous Nose-holding threads that gave grudging support to Kerry over the last months. I've never responded to you, but I have seen you and your posts. That said...

How is that thread any different than a gay "now we're doomed"thread?

How is that any different than a "now black folk are doomed" thread?

I could go on, but you get my point. Yes, this sucks BIG TIME but is sucks big time for ALL of us...

Focus on your self-interests, point fingers of blame. My empathy is there, but this forum is for "Hope & Support" and that was the intent of my thread.

5. This guy is great
I wonder what we will be able to accomplish with him in place. I'm very hopeful that we may be able to fix some of this countries problems. The last four years have been a constant fight not to lose ground, but I feel that Senator Obama will help us fight to gain ground once more.
