We need to start identifying a candidate for 2008. And Hillary
isn't the one. I love Hillary Clinton, but she is too much of a ligtning rod for the RW. Who is out there we can all get behind that has a snowball's chance in hell of getting elected? I really respect Joe Biden and think he would make a great president.

There isn't a chance in hell this country will elect a Jew as President. Not after this election and the force of the Christian right. How could they vote for someone who doesn't have Christmas??They couldn't possibly understand.

ready for a woman president. As a woman, that worries me, but it's just being realistic.

Senate voting records are too confusing for the average American.

We need to scour the business community and Governorships.

that we call the democratic party. And it needs some repairs. We need to think of the future.

That said, I'd suggest we work on the foundation first. We can worry about the roof later.

16. I will join a Draft Clark '08 organization
as soon as one is formed. I think that he has the stuff of a brilliant politician, he just got started too late and was a neophyte.

He's learned a whole lot about campaigning since then and I think he would be really viable next time around.

Hillary - or any other liberal icon, or any other "NorthEastern liberal" - will drive-up GOP turnout.

A Southern General might be our best chance.

42. While I agree that Clinton may not be the best choice
but I think we should not fall into the trap of being blinded by military credentials. That was part of the thinking with Kerry; "how can they call him weak on terror? He's a decorated war hero!" Such was also the thinking with Clark. But it's misguided; the VRWC can smear anybody as weak and unpatriotic. You can't have forgotten the Swift Boat Veterans For Truth.

The charges don't have to be true! They can easily avoid being caught in a blatant lie (like that seems to matter anyway - NOT) by having third parties make the smear for them.

So don't waste your effort trying to find a candidate who will appeal to the right. The right will always go with the real thing anyway, and you don't necessarily have to be centre-right to capture the middle.

Find a candidate who appeals to you. Someone who's true. If they're true, and unafraid, they'll do well with the undecided middle anyway. No doubt about it.

21. KERRY - again
We need someone to say "I told you so" and "here's a second chance."

We need to be able to say "we believed in him then, and we still believe in him."

Before the primaries, I was hoping for Gore this year, much for those same reasons.

Edited on Wed Nov-03-04 02:07 PM by Capn Sunshine
You're going to have to hit the ground running to get by him with anyone.

The DFA will have a 6 year head start, and the sooner the rest of the party realizes he was right, the better off you'll be.

Or maybe the DLC will have formulated a surefire plan by then, like the last three elections.

30. Well, it isn't all that urgent, lets get a good analysis underway
then let's learn the hard lessons, whatever they are.

I'm not really ready to concede this election, let alone start identifying new horses to run in the 2008 race. Kerry might have quit but I didn't.

Enron, Halliburton, 9/11, Lies, lies, Failed war (Afganistan/Terror), Wrong war (Iraq), Plame, Corruption of Intelligence, Infiltration of Defense by foreign agents, all provide plenty to keep chewing on.

41. Well from what
I hear, the Democrats need to run a southern Governor who will govern from at least the middle. They might have a chance to win that way...might. Clinton got help from Perot in 92, and Dole didn't give much of a fight in 96.

Until this system we live in collapses, America will continue to slide to the right. The left just cannot win(I know, I know, be positive!). The culture war is too strong. With a global economy(and the damn culture war), economic issues are basically off the table.

They gained power in the House. They gained power in the Senate. They not only kept the White House, they now have the popular vote by 3.5 million votes.

After everything that's happened, to lose that badly, it's amazing.

And if there was unseen electronic voter fraud, that makes things that much tougher.

This is America, and it is frightening.

Talking about this when it is 4 years (maybe) away. I say maybe because you make a big assumption that they will allow elections. Who knows what will happen between now and then. We have NO idea at this point who would be a good candidate.
