Closet door swings open on TV...
"Gay America has been making a fabulous debut on the small screen-but the reason for this coming out, and its impact, remain in the closet."

and "Gay Whiplash"

1. This trendy push in the media will come back to hurt gay Americans
Gays have got to be seen as more than just the latest trend. What always happens to fads? It is sad to see that many pushing this equality through fads are gays. Gays should never listen to these flaming lisping hucksters. I am old enough to remember the late 70s, by the mid to late 80s, gay was no longer chic. I read something like that in a portion from the book Queer in America, that said that about gays in the 80s. I encourage, make that implore, gays who come to this site to read this book as the author, forget his name, goes through his coming of age during that time period. History is repeating itself, but on a bigger and prehaps more disastrous scale.

2. You have a point
but I honestly don't think so. I was 13 in 1980 so I definately know what you are talking about. Gays and lesbians all but disappeared from TV during the very late 1970's and the early 1980's. Reagan's elections froze and in some cases reversed gay and lesbian gains in the 1970's. I really think though, that we will get a Democrat this time. I think that the use of that bully pulpit combined with the sky not falling as these rights are granted will stay the backlash.

3. That was still too young to remember what was really happening.
I was early 20s, I am "straight", so "straight people" tell me what they really think. Trust me it is easy to get bored with all these stereotypical flamers, you will see it happen. Sorry. Its not just fear that the sky is falling, its a matter of just getting plain annoyed. Gays were acting the same way in the late 70s, though what is happening now is bigger than then, the results could be the same, make that likely to be the same.
