I want the bastards to overturn Roe v Wade today...
I want all those young college girls and self righteous parents to face the facts.

I will mourn the deaths of the women who die from sepsis and I will feel some compassion for them as they are locked up in jail and then disenfranchised...but they will have asked for it.

the Handmaid's Tale never seemed so true.

1. Yep. This country will swing so far right this country won't know what
hit it. Of course the evangelicals will be delighted. Middle America will be stunned.

5. Yep...
Roe v. Wade will be overturned. Period. Let's get it done so women can face the consequences and realize their error. Have England and France make startling discoveries about how to cure disease while our scientists flee overseas. Let it happen fast.

8. It's already started
There's an organization of physicians and pharmacists who refuse to prescribe or fill prescriptions for birth control pills. And that's for any reason--a woman's health, to regulate periods, to lessen the effects of certain "female" diseases, anything. They consider the pill an abortificant and that's the end of the story. There are those, too, who believe sexual relations are only for the purpose of conception, and thus are against any birth control method. There used to be a saying among far-right Christian fundamentalists: "The only birth control is self control." Aren't men gonna love this one? People get ready--there's a juggernaut coming, and its goal is to take us all down!

I'm now back to my original DU sig line: Tired Old Cynic

17. Wrote the Kerry campaign to use the BC issue
But they never did. Argued that they should push the Bushies on their blastocyst is a human life for stem cell research purposes then it must be a life for birth control purposes, too. Abortion/choice won't hit middle America hard enough, but taking away their birth control pills (back to barrier methods) would. I wanted the Kerry campaign to play the hypocrisy card big time.

6. I could not agree more!
Edited on Wed Nov-03-04 08:59 AM by placton
Like bleedingheart, I totally support a woman's right to choose. But we live in a nation of idiots - millions of them. Sure, some are liberal idiots. But here are 2 of the many kinds:
1. anti-choice idiots (until it happens to their daughter): we will never get them to vote Dem, or Green, or Pink and Purple.
2. pro-choice idiots, who think their rights will be protected

The second group will be waking up soon, after Roe v Wade is overturned, and bigoted states (like Michigan, now, and the South, apparently for all time) start telling these little darlings how their bodies are to be policed. Maybe, in 50 years or so, these idiots will get the message.

12. Exactly, placton.
There is one in my office who is ardently pro choice. When I try to explain to her how close we are to overturning Roe v. Wade she looks at me like I have 5 heads. And she voted for Bush because she thinks he is so nice. What pisses me off is I am old enough to remember the fight in the 60's. Those women fought so hard. And women today? They just don't give a shit. They want the right but they don't want to fight to protect it and don't feel they need to. Maybe a good hard slap in their collective heads is what they need. I am so disgusted!

9. Today, in Florida, we have a new Amendment
to our State Constitution that states a minor can't have an abortion without parental consent. So now, they can be young, scared...and alone.

21. Another underground railroad?
Smuggling girls to states where the procedure is legal?

I can only imagine the fear a teenage girl would feel who thinks she might be pregnant.

10. read "Handmaid's Tale." Now. Right now
I saw the cheesy movie years ago, but the true horror of that story comes home when you read the book.

I read it this past spring and was too shocked at the real world parallels to believe.

I hate to think about all the unwanted babies but that's what happens when idiots get control of a country and a woman's body.

13. You forgot: women and doctors in prison or on trial
for "murder" of a fetus-person.

I heard someone say the repukes plan if Fucktwit got in there again was to put the pedal to the metal and push more tax cuts, deregulation and conservative judgeships.

It's gonna come hard and fast and I hope the freaking center, whoever they fucking are have their heads ripped right off by it.

16. Ya know, this could be a good thing - horribly!
Abortion has been the key to recruiting the Catholics and a lotta fundies. IF Roe is overturned, a big argument for voting GOP goes away. And I know a lot of young voters, back in the 70s, backed Dems on social issues that affect their lives.

I will fight to keep choice, but WHEN it goes out the window, we need to turn it to our advantage. Because, even birth control pills are gonna be banned.

18. They know better
They been promising an end to Roe v Wade for over 25 years. It's in their platform. They've had two years in control of all branches of gov't and just consolidated their hold. It's put up or shut up time, the fundies won't accept any more excuses.

Now, watch them dither. They're about to be forced to grab a third rail, and they know it.

20. Bans on birth control next!
They won't stop with abortion. This isn't about "killing babies", its about regulating sexuality and keeping women subordinate.

The precedent for Roe v. Wade was (i think) a case in the 1960's, striking down a Connecticut law banning the sale of birth control. This case established the precedent for the right of privacy on which Roe v. Wade was based.

We already have "Pharmacists for Life? taking action on their own to deny legal contraceptives to women. We may see this practice become the law of the land.

Oh, and BTW, if abortion is illegal, any woman who has a miscarriage becomes a criminal suspect.

22. I've been talking about this for months...
My next door neighbor is psychotically pro-birth...no birth control but self-control...When I asked her why, after 2 years of republican "pro-life" domination of government, abortion is still legal? She says they just need more time.

I took her some photos of young children, burned, starved, maimed, by the fighting in Iraq, Congo, Rwanda...she said we have to save "our" babies first...just as I thought, it's about white babies!

And if abortion is re-criminalized, it should be with NO outs...not rape, incest, life of the mother...let the LORD take care of them...let them feel the true horror of their choice!
