I would be tempted to say Iraq or the economy - that's kind of the general consensus you hear a lot - and that's what I think about a lot.

But really when I think about it - for me - it's the growing police state - and that ties together the PATRIOT ACT, Supreme Court appointments, and the increasing power of the government to the detriment of individual rights.

When we lose individual rights - we've lost it all.

So for me - stopping a growing police state is ultimately the most important issue since our survival as a democracy depends upon it.

1. The Supreme Court and the U.S. PATRIOT Act
I'm afraid if * gets another term, he'll finish removing the safeguards built into this democracy and the country will be a one-party theocratic fascist dictatorship.

2. Single Payer National Health Care
It would go such a long way toward making this a truly decent society.

3. Rampant poverty of Americans
Poor people can't fight back. We spent the last 200 years building a society where money equals power and freedom. Now that it's cemented, we spent last 4 years taking money away from anyone the ruling class doesn't like. And it's all downhill from here unless something changes.

5. I have to agree with you
I am more scared of losing some of my constitutional rights than I am of some nebulous terra threat. If we trade our rights for a false sense of safety we are fucked. I am amazed that anyone would consider that a fair trade. We will never be completely safe from those who wish us harm. What we can do is STOP giving the terrorists a reason to hate us. Another threat to our democracy is the corporate/government run tv. Too many dolts out there in TVLand believe the tripe they are fed daily by the corporate whores and it shades their perception of reality. Bring back the fairness doctrine and put an end to consolidation.

If bUSH steals it again, the mass exodus of draft dodger's to the north just might be the thing that loosens our control of our nation?:scared:
