Holy SHIZNIT!!!!! MSNBC does DRIP, DRIP, DRIP story!!!!!!!!!

http://msnbc.com/news/937576.asp?0cv=CA01

The familiar drip, drip, drip of a brewing political scandal echoes through the power centers of Washington and London these days as the Bush administration and the government of British Prime Minister Tony Blair are pelted daily with increasingly pointed questions about the case they made for going to war against Iraq. The admission that the president made an apparently false allegation against Iraq in his State of the Union address was supposed to help put the issue to rest. Instead, it reopened fissures inside the administration and in Blair’s government over the validity of their case for war.

"The GOP can bottle up inquiries in Congress but it can't bottle up public opinion".....more confirmation of what we have known all along.....It is NEVER about truth, it is only about politics.

9. Boy, even if we take it as minor as we can we get:
choosing British inteligence over (and in spite of) the CIA means either:

1.) YOu don't trust your own intelligence

or

2.) You're misleading the American public

This is worst case scenero (from our perspective). Think of what best case is:

Niger story is justthe beginning. We see Bush and Cheney actively calculating
and only picking stories that support their contentions.

The American public might put up with a lot, but they don't like to be deceived.

12. Love this part

The image of African leaders standing mutely by as their news conferences were transformed into debates on Iraq could not fail to recall similarly uncomfortable moments during Bill Clinton’s scandal-plagued administration.

But the comparisons end there. Clinton’s troubles were domestic, in the strictest sense, and largely dismissed as unimportant in the rest of the world. Today, with U.S. troops dying in Iraq at a rate even the White House sees as politically unsustainable, there is a palpable desire to lay to rest any questions about the war’s real motives and stem any further damage to U.S. and British credibility.

18. 9/11 is unravelling at the same time
so the BushReich will be subject to a cross-rough action from the press. But the press is so utterly gentle with them that it might not stick. Unless there is a big economic turnaround, the Democrats have a huge opportunity. And as long as we are in an open ended quagmire in Iraq, I don't see an economic turnaround.

Most telling of all about the pic is the absence is *.

Where is he when you need him? I think back to 911 and how unsafe I felt with him at the helm--and rightfully so since we later found he was running for his life while we remained terrorized.

37. Weird interpretation of quote
"On still another tack, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld on Wednesday told Congress that the decision to go to war was far more complex than the WMD issue and really was not centered on whether Iraq had new or ongoing WMD programs."

I thought the Rumsfeld quote was ambiguous in a few stories I read about it. In isolation, does the quote mean they DID find new evidence but it was not their reason for acting, or did it mean they DIDN'T find new evidence and didn't have that as their reason for acting.

But, if you hear the comments in context, he says that they haven't found any WMD and it will take time to find them, then he says they didn't act because they had found new evidence.

I think the interpretation is clear. He wasn't saying that the decision was more complex than just the WMD issue, he was saying it was going to take time to find WMD because they didn't have evidence of WMD to start with, only the old evidence that they then supposedly felt represented a threat when considered in light of 9/11. So, all the claims of solid evidence of an imminent threat were lies.

39. This is almost like a DU topic:
CRYING WOLFOWITZ’?

The ferocity of the leaking and spinning that has followed the White House retraction reflects lingering splits inside the U.S. government over Iraq. The State Department, the military officer corps and many CIA officials were very wary of the idea of an invasion of Iraq and skeptical of intelligence painting Saddam as a “clear and present danger” to the United States even as Osama bin Laden remained at large.

Looks like were learnin' em.
