Why is there never any "Why did the Republicans lose New England?" talk?
I'm so frickin' sick of hearing about how the Democrats alienated the South. "It used to be reliably Democratic," blah blah blah.

Well, the reverse is true in New England. That part of the country was once rock-ribbed Republican. You never hear pundits lamenting the fact that the wingnuts have alienated the educated citizens of our Northeastern Region.

Double standard.

1. My guess is population.
The biggest electoral State in New England is MA with 12 electoral votes. The population in the US has slowly but surely shifted to the South and West of the country. After the last census for example, CT lost one electoral vote. We went from 8 to 7. So in other words, despite the rich history of New England, when it comes to the election, nobody really cares. At least not on a National level.

2. Education
Lots of colleges and universities.
The modern GOP requires its adherants to be dumb as shovels.

New Englanders are also unlikely to pick up rattlesnakes in church.

4. To borrow a quote
"New England did not leave the Republican party, the Republican party left New England."

5. Because we're not "real" Americans
/sarcasm

Part of it is that electorally, we mean less than we used to. The population is shifting south and west, and we are declining in influence.

Part of it is that as the Republican party moves to the right, they alienate Northeasterners who are more likely to be in a union, more likely to be Catholic, etc.

And part of it is that the media whores have determined that New England isn't the "real America." Which is too bad, because if more of America was like New England, IMHO we'd be a better country.

6. Well we are smart enough to realize
pandering to the north will not sway our opinions. We will vote in the right guy. But if you tell stuuuuuuuuuuuuupid people they are being alienated when they aren't they say "They done called us stupid and that ain't right"
