Where is the marketing for LinkTV?
I can't believe I had never even heard of LinkTV until yesterday, and I heard about it from my dad of all people.

My dad is no fan of Bush but he is fairly conservative in some ways and was at least a lukewarm supporter of the war before it started. I tried to tell him at the time that everything in the media was BS. We argued and argued about it.

Even later when there were no WMD's he still refused to admit that the media had been complicit in duping him. He ended up realizing the war was wrong and Bush was an idiot, but in a way I think he viewed me as kind of a wild eyed radical with all my ranting about the "lying media."

I sent him home a few weeks ago with a copy of Fahrenheit 911 and when he called me yesterday I asked him if he had seen it. he said he had and found it interesting, but really no commentary beyond that. He's been ABB (and will vote Kerry) for quite sometime so I didn't feel the need to press him on it. But then the most amazing thing happened.

He said "do you watch LinkTV?" and I said I had never even heard of it so I probably didn't get it. He has Dish Network and I have Directv. He said that was too bad because I would really like it.

He then went on to tell me he had just seen a little piece about George Soros on Link and he mentioned how he had heard Soros portrayed negatively in the media and O'Reilly in particular. Then he said the media never shows the side of Soros that he saw on the LinkTV documentary "Just like you've been saying."

That "just like you have been saying" absolutely floored me. This is the moment my dad saw the light, and LinkTV showed him the light in a half hour. LinkTV has done what the last two years of my ruining family get togethers has not.

So what is the deal? I have since found LinkTV is right there on Ch. 375 on my reciever and have been watching it non stop since.

But somehow the word needs to get out. People have to know that channel is there and what it is. If it can move my dad like that it can move a lot of undecideds.

I read DU, Buzzflash, Bartcop, The Daily Howler, and other news outlets every single day and I had never even heard of them.

Anyway, sorry about the long post but somehow these guys need a marketing campaign. Any ideas why they don't?

1. Because they are reasonably new...
... have a policy of not taking corporate/advertising money (although they do take money from foundations supported by corporations), and do the rest of their fundraising by public appeal, ala' PBS.

All that said, there's interesting programming there, and lots of documentaries which otherwise would not be seen.

They want people to know about them, but, admittedly, satellite is a fairly small audience compared to the total of cable/broadcast.

Don't worry--they'll get more exposure as time goes by.

2. Free Speech TV
FSTV is another good source for non-corporate news & views.

4. I used to post schedules for programs on LinkTV that I thought of interest
here on DU.

There was hardly ever any response at all, and I, frankly, got tired of trying to keep kicking my own threads, so I gave up.

We all can help by spreading the news about LinkTV by word of mouth. I'm trying to do that as much as I can.

It would be nice if DU could help in this, but........

6. ...
linktv is the bizzomb. we recently ditched our directv & got dish network so i'm glad it's carried there as well. i suppose it's time to upgrade our channel subscription.

around six months ago they did a great piece about corruption in a southeast asian country which allows logging from a national park. everyone of influence is paid off & reporters are threatened & in some cases murdered.

it's eye-opening stuff.
