Two nights ago, one of my associates asked me if I noticed that many people were under great stress? It was funny, because I had seen how a number of DUers had mentioned similar things. Winning a tough battle certainly includes some anxiety and some stress.
We talked about keeping things in focus. My 10-year old daughter had helped me with this that night, by her being terribly offended by the republican "wolf ad." We discussed why it was so important to beat Bush on Tuesday. She decided that she wants to run for president as an adult. We posted her message to DU, and about 50 people responded. For those few hours, the stress and anxiety was gone.
If you believe in God, say prayers of thanks for those things that make our vicory a moral necessity. Children, the environment, a sane foreign policy. If you have a different name than "God" for these things, meditate. Do deep breathing. Take even an hour to yourself. Go inside, and think about Martin's saying that unearned suffering is redemptive: what does this mean for the suffering people of Iraq?
We have only one thing left: insuring a big turn-out. We've won. It's time to think positive. It's time for our county to heal. We can't heal our self-inflicted Iraqi wound without treating the Vietnam scar. I think this campaign has helped. Honor the veterans. And honor the Woodstock Generation. There was a big turn-out, and we have the right to feel that same energy today. So I'd like you to put on your Woodstock CDs, albums, and films, across America, and let's sing:
Freedom freedom freedom freedom Freedom freedom freedom freedom
Sometimes I feel like a motherless child Sometimes I feel like a motherless child Sometimes I feel like a motherless child A long way from my home, yeah yeah
Sing Freedom freedom freedom freedom Freedom freedom freedom freedom
Sometimes I feel like I'm almost gone Sometimes I feel like I'm almost gone
