What was cut from the OBL broadcast?
We know that the US State Dept. prevailed on Qatar to intercede with al Jazeera to not air the OBL video. It seems that airing was at very least delayed. (Delayed until after the US stock markets closed at 4PM, though I have no idea whether that was a consideration) For whatever reason, Al Jazeera aired only brief excerpts. I am interested in this because if our government sought to suppress one part of the tape then they are de facto authors of whatever part was aired. (In propaganda the final cut is all that matters; the editor is the author)

QUESTIONS: Has a complete transcript of the tape—the entire tape—been made public? And if not, why not? What material was omitted, and for what purpose? Was there any portion of the tape that we (the US) asked not be aired that was, in fact, not aired?

These are not rhetorical questions. I don't have a theory and I’m not insinuating any particular set of answers, merely seeking information. Does anyone at DU know?

2. AL JAZEERA HAS NOT RELEASED IT ALL
IT SEEMS LIKE THEY ARE HOLDING BACK, BUT I SWEAR IT SOUNDED LIKE THEY GAVE OUR GOVT COPY, WHICH WE ARE ALSO HOLDING BACK TO ANALYZE. UNLESS THEY ARE JUST ANALYZING THE SAME BIT WE'VE ALL SEEN. YOU KNOW THE HIDDEN MESSAGE THING.

4. I want to read the whole thing
uncut, with a verified accurate translation.

Usama said they expected to have only 20 minutes for the attack, but since Bush sat in the classroom in Florida, they had three times that amount of time.

Can you say criminal negligence? Total abrogation of responsibility?

The exact phrase uttered by Andy Card in that classroom: "A second plane hit the second tower. America is under attack." In a nuclear age, in an age when Tony Blair said they could attack us within 45 minutes, don't you think that EVERY MOMENT IS PRECIOUS?!?!

5. from end of drudge transcript
http://www.drudgereport.com/flash2.htm

Female Presenter: In Bin Laden's message he approached other points. He pointed to the contradiction which considers oppression and killing of innocents a legal act. They formed an international law as bush the father did with the children of iraq according to bin laden. Bin Laden pointed to the millions of pounds of explosives dropped on Iraqi children as bush his son had done, as he said to remove an old agent and install a new agent to help instealing the oil of iraq. And bin laden said the events of 9/11 came as an answer to this oppression and said that if the answer to this oppression is considered bad terror, then we need to do it. And he stressed that he wants to deliver this message to the Americans in words and in deeds since the 9/11 events. He reminded Americans of a few warning messages through various news media like Time Magazine and CNN and other Arab and correspondents since 1996. He warned them of the conswquences of their countries policies. He talked abou t the damage Sept 11 caused the US economy and that it cost close to a trillion dollars. He talked about President Bush and that the emergency law requires more money.

6. check for a transcript at the LA Times
According to this article at Smirking Chimp some damaging bits for Shrub were cut out in airings and transcripts in the media except for the transcript posted at the LA Times (see last paragraph below).

On balance, the tape may help Bush simply because neither the media or Kerry have the stomach for examining the tape and broadcasting bin Laden's punishing and rather spot-on comments about our prez, such as:

We did not find it difficult to deal with Bush and his administration, because it is similar to regimes in our countries, half of which are ruled by the military and the other half are ruled by the sons of kings and presidents. We have a long experience with them. Both types include many who are full of arrogance and greed.

This resemblance became clear in the Bush the father's visits to the region. ... He wound up being impressed by the royal and military regimes and envied them for staying decades in their positions and embezzling the nation's money with no supervision.

He passed on tyranny and oppression to his son, and they called it the PATRIOT act, under the pretext of fighting terror. Bush the father did well in placing his sons as governors and did not forget to pass on the expertise in fraud from the leaders of the (Mideast) region to Florida to use it in critical moments.

<snip>

(N.B. the only version of the transcript that included the startling reference to Bush Sr. picking up pointers in the Middle East on how to install his prince lings into local satrapies was at the LA Times. I guess they didn't get the memo. Neither NYT, WaPo, CNN, MSNBC, Guardian, or Independent carried that part.)

7. l.a. times and drudge!
Drudge was up first with a full unpolished transcript. who woulda thunk it?

OBL: We didn't find difficulty dealing with Bush and his administration due to the similarity of his regime and the regims in our countries. Whish half of them are ruled by military and the other half by sons of kings and presidents and our experience with them is long. Both parties are arrogant and stubborn and the greediness and taking money without right and that similarity appeared during the visits of Bush to the region while people from our side were impressed by the US and hoped that these visits would influence our countries. Here he is being influenced by these regimes, Royal and military. And was feeling jealous they were staying for decades in power stealing the nations finances without anybody overseeing them. So he transferred the oppression of freedom and tyranny to his son and they call it th e Patriot Law to fight terrorism. He was bright in putting his sons as governors in states and he didn't forget to transfer his experience from the rulers of our region to Florida to falsify elections to benefit from it in critical times.

9. The LA Times just used AP's transcript of what was *broadcast*
thought the LA Times may have put more text online than others, it's still only text from what was aired. There's stuff missing.

10. Here's some information/speculation (RW source)
I have no theory here, just adding this data point to the mix:
MORE TALES OF THE TAPE Stories circulated today that the new OBL video was much less bipartisan than at first believed, and that unedited versions of the tape included threats against the Bush family and several Cabinet members. This morning Al Jazeera posted what it claimed was a complete transcript of the video which apart from looking too short to be 18 minutes also had nothing that was not already aired. One interesting side note -- the text of the translation was based on the subtitles in the original video. The transcript does not include the final few sentences in which bin Laden mentions John Kerry. Nor does bin Laden anywhere mention Iraq. He does apparently say that this is the fourth year of the war, but everything else he says deals with the causes of the conflict. Is this a new tape or not?

11. UPDATE: Purported complete transcript >
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x946056

It's odd that cabinet officials like John Ashcroft aren't mentioned (as initial RW buzz said yesterday)... and this seems way too short for the supposed 14-18 minute time frame.

Is this really complete?

12. The criticisms of Kerry
Bin Laden has been known to criticize both Democratic and Republican Presidents. {Notice his making a picture of Clinton target practice in news footage) Since Kerry voted for the Patriot Act, the Bushbots probably cut the criticisms of Kerry to make it appear he was for Kerry and hope people would vote for Bush.

13. Additional data point
US intelligence analysts report al Jazeera aired only 5 minutes of 18-minute total length, which contained two additional references to Bush and family.

14. Here is another very interesting link titled "Bin Laden's tape
intercepted by BushCo. in September and only released Thursday?"

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x1231079

It has good pro and con Rovian tactics regarding the timing of the release of the new video, and the editing.

Yesterday, as soon as I heard that the tapes were edited, I tried to Google edited OBL videos, tapes, videotapes, etc. and came up with nada (Old tapes, or references to edited by..) Maybe today I'll try again.
