3. SS has collected more money than it has paid out for years....

SS has shown a surplus for many, many years. Every penny of the surplus was immediately spent for years and years. Not a dime was saved. Ever.

Hence Al Gore's proposed "lockbox", which was the smartest, most underrated campaign promise in my lifetime. It's too bad it never came to pass. President Gore might have actually transformed Social Security from a Ponzi Scheme into a Retirement Plan.
