I have noticed this happen more than once in all three of the local taverns in town. Someone will out of the blue try and bring up politics, and what a great job "W" is doing. We usually just look at the guy like he landed here from Mars or something and don't say anything. And then the subject gets changed immediately. Thats when I go to the window and check the lot to see if the guy is driving a Lincoln or a Caddy. They are always driving one or the other. Always decked out with all kinds of Rethug stickers like they are in some kind of parade or something. Wonder who these whack jobs are? I love Illinois.

5. 60 miles or so south of Chicago near the Indiana border

Pure redneck heaven around here. Few miles from my house on the Kankakee river it reminds me of a scene from Deliverance. I always look for the kid with the banjo when I fish in that area. Rednecks can't find no good jobs though. Rednecks are pissed.

2. yes, I left IL this summer
and I miss it. But I also miss my home state of ND and haven't lived there for about 8 or 9 years. :sigh:

3. You would think I'd love living in CA
But San Joaquin county (about an hour north of the Bay Area) seems so absurdly pro-Bush sometimes, I can't stand it.

4. Yep, Illinois is great.
I recently just gave up trying to talk to a freeper friend of mine from high school. He's in his senior year of college right now.

He told me all about how AWESOME supply-side economics is, and how the non-existant small business owner who makes $200,000 income needs a break so he can provide health care. I mentioned that if someone is making $200,000 a year profit and (s)he still doesn't see fit to give his employees health care, (s)he doesn't deserve the income, but that was simply ignored. I also mentioned that the majority of people who make over $200,000 are doctors, lawyers, and corporate suits, but again, that didn't matter.

I talked about the regular talking points regarding invasion of Iraq, and he responded with how the UN is "corrupt."

He then told me that, and I quote, "I don't think this war
has been perfectly executed...but I still think there may be reasons
for Bush to have done what he did that maybe we just don't yet know
about..."

There's absolutely no reasoning with him, anymore.

Finally I gave up and sent him pictures of those flag-draped cardboard coffins on the Lincoln/WWII Memorial Mall, and he said it was a low blow.

War for these guys is antiseptic, and any sort of evidence to the contrary is simply a disgusting tactic by the 'enemy.'
