It was used for that purpose, and the explosives were to be used as detonators on nuclear bombs. I agree, they should have made it clear that this was during the distant past.

I quit donating to NPR this year. They have moved too far to the right and rely far to much on corporate sponsorships for my liking.

it's the stations that need the donations -- just find one that's still reliably liberal and donate to them, or tell NPR itself that their polices are affecting your donations on the local level.

I'm putting in a word for 89.1 WEMU (wemu.org) in Ypsilanti, Michigan. It was the only local public radio station which provided the opportunity for each candidate (within its listening area) to have five minutes of air time before the August primaries. And we can get five public radio stations here. Not to mention, it's one of a handful of stations across the country with true jazz and blues programming.

plus two independent public stations,
WORT and WOJB.

They all deserve continued support for their Wisconsin-based programming. The talk show hosts do a really great job & the guests are from all over the map, literally & figuratively.

This is true of every other government department as well. Bushco has made a concerted effort to root out long-time bureaucrats, many of whom were sensible, well-educated, non-partisan, and qualified to do their jobs. They've been forced out and replaced by bushco appointees who are incompetent, clueless, moranic ideologues.
