"Dean's Cooking with Grease"- D. Brazile
Well, I'll admit it, in an earlier thread, I was too harsh in my reaction to Donna Brazile, and I'm glad that some of you called me on it. I complained that she made a seemingly negative comment about Dean in a recent WP article, but after considering some of your responses, and seeing this Salon article, where Brazile uses one of my favorite terms to describe Dean, I think I was out of line.

Many of you pointed out her many years of service to the Democratic Party, and other contributions she's made. Yes, she's still what I think of as an insider pundit, yes, it bothers me that she's tight with Rove, etc., but I think I was wrong, and want to admit it.

Here's a bit from the Salon article:

At Bush re-election headquarters, where Dean once was dismissed as a perfect foil, the former Vermont governor is getting a closer look. He still can be cast as a tax-raising, ill-tempered, undisciplined candidate, Republicans argue, but what if he should win the nomination while swelling the Democratic base?

"They better be worried," said Donna Brazile, manager of Al Gore's 2000 campaign. "Dean's cooking with grease."

4. I've heard it (used it) with "grease", instead of "gas", here in Virginia.
Maybe it's a local saying: "Now he's cookin' with grease."

The word "grease", in this context, seems to have more umph than "gas", IMHO.

Fast spreading grease fires and boiling your food in high boiling point grease as opposed to cooking on top of your everyday gas stove.

Folks cook with gas. Folks cook with electricity. Folks cook with grease. But, I've never heard of someone cooking with lightning (or even a greased variety of lightning). :P

One thing..I thought Kerry was going to announce on Wednesday and the article says on "Tuesday"!

I wonder what time?

People are so worried about what happened in the past but yet they don't learn from History!

Who else was gonna go against pappybush in the general election?

Who did Dukakis beat out?

10. There were all of the following at one time or another
Paul Simon, Jesse Jackson, Dick Gephardt, Al Gore, Mike Dukakis, Joe Biden, Gary Hart, and Pat Shroder (I think)

11. I Think Pat Schroeder
flirted with the idea of running but never did...

How did I forget Gep and Paul"Bowtie" Simon.

It was a blessing for Dukakis that Gary Hart got into "Monkey Business" and dropped out cuz he would have sailed to the nomination and had a better chance at Papa Bush as a westerner and "New Democrat"

15. ...Al Gore, Joe Biden, Gary Hart had already dropped out...
all three of whom (Discarding Hart's recent-at-the-time monkey business) would have rallied more Dems than Dukakis. Dukakis ran on competency (as a technocrat). There was no fire to the campaign, just amazement at getting beat.

12. Thanks for sharing that article...
I'm having a lot of trouble deciding whose campaign to volunteer for, and any more articles like this will help me make the decision. I'm leaning toward Dean but as of yet, am still undecided. I think Brazile knows what she's talking about, as much as people say she's a GOP insider. She really DOES know her stuff and the right strategies for each candidate, what their strengths and weaknesses are, etc.

14. donna Brazile is right about Dean
lets hope that if she's interrupted her phone calls w/ KKKarl to kiss a little ass now that it looks like he's got a shot, Dean just says "thanks, I'll call you back...maybe."

16. Back in March or April Donna B offered her sky miles
to Dean on CNN one day, so some of her recent comments have surprised me. Glad to see she is back on the right track.
