Bush and Condi spent last Thanksgiving with Chalabi!
Edited on Fri Oct-22-04 09:09 AM by geek tragedy
This, imo, is worse than the inauguration pictures!

I was just looking up the Turkee story for amusement, and lookee what I found:

You could tell he was really enjoying himself. It wasn't just a photo opportunity. This man was actually enjoying himself! He worked his way over the course of about 90 minutes towards my side of the room. Meanwhile, I took the opportunity to shake a few hands. I got a picture with Ambassador Bremer, Talabani (acting Iraqi president) and Achmed Chalabi (another member of the ruling council) and Condaleeza Rice, who was there with him.

Q: Thank you, Mr. President. Mr. Chalabi is an Iraqi leader that's fallen out of favor within your administration. I'm wondering if you feel that he provided any false information, or are you particularly—

A: Chalabi?

Q: Yes, with Chalabi.

A: My meetings with him were very brief. I mean, I think I met with him at the State of the Union and just kind of working through the rope line, and he might have come with a group of leaders. But I haven't had any extensive conversations with him.

Was this dinner mentioned before? It seems mighty suspicious now.

The president held a Thanksgiving dinner with a number of officials including US civil administrator in Iraq Paul Bremer, US ground forces commander Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez, Ahmed Chalabi, member of the Iraqi Governing Council (IGC), and current IGC president Jalal Talabani.

1. Good find!
Chalabi was the anointed future leader of Iraq -- it makes sense he would be at a photo-op where he could say "thank you" to the troops. Aw, isn't that special?

He'd be in jail now if his American supporters, Wolfowitz and Perle, had not interceded for him.

Bush really can't admit the truth about ANYTHING, can he?

2. sy hersch nailed chalabi, way back
i don't have the link, but surely the new yoorker archives will have seymour hersch's article, (i think fall 2002), about the paper tiger that was chalabi. the thrust of the article was basically this:

that we were banking on a guy that was serving his own agenda by telling us what we needed.
