WTF: "Daily Show" book rejected by Wal-Mart
"Daily Show" book rejected by Wal-Mart

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Wal-Mart canceled an order for a best-selling book by Jon Stewart and the writers of "The Daily Show" after executives learned that it contains a photo of nine naked, aged bodies, each with the superimposed head of a Supreme Court justice.
"America (The Book)," a mock school text that lampoons the government in much the same way the Comedy Central show spoofs the news, includes cutouts of the justices' robes and a caption asking readers to "restore their dignity by matching each justice with his or her respective robe."

Executives for the Bentonville-based retail giant deemed the book inappropriate for its shelves this week.

"We were not aware of the image that was in the book , and we felt the majority of our customers would not be comfortable with it," Wal-Mart spokeswoman Karen Burk said.

Jamie Raab of Warner Books, which produced "America," said the naked-justice joke fits perfectly with the book's theme.

"It's not gratuitous ... It's funny, yet to the point," Raab said. "When you undress the Supreme Court justices, they're just men and women, and you have to judge them on who they are and what they do."

Wal-Mart is offering the book on its Web site. Burk said the store's online customers are a "different audience."

3. Wal-Mart's book selection sucks, anyway.
I saw "America" at Target earlier today, though....prominently displayed.

Screw Wal-Mart.

9. Try this...Never buy anything ever from Walmart.
I personally have bought one $1 item from them in my lifetime.

Why?

Because I support small business.

10. add it to the list of why not to shop there
what do you expect? i guess they were concerned that kids would paw their way through the 200-or so pages to find the 2 "offending" pages in the middle. funny that they have such concern for the wellbeing of their customers while systematically shitting on their employees

13. but how long did they sell Protocols of the Elders of Zion?
apparently they have no problem selling a known bit of lying propaganda used first by the Tsar and then by Hitler to justify killing Jews, but heaven forbid they show an obviously faked page of pictures of naked Supreme Court judges.

I'm glad Wal-Mart is such a stupid asshole business, frankly, because this will hopefully make people wise up and stop shopping there.

I haven't been inside a Wal-Mart in years, and I will never buy anything from them again.

They lock employees in, refuse to pay overtime, make it nearly impossible for long-term workers to get health insurance, pay slave wages while making millions and millions, refuse to sell the morning after pill in their pharmacies...

I'd be so happy if they went bankrupt. People need decent jobs, not Wal-Mart jobs.

14. Good point raindog and everyone
I like Walmart for the convenience and prices, but the first time I even thought about setting foot in one was in West Texas, where that is all they have to offer. I'm used to Houston and Dallas. I know they run small family businesses out, and import "American goods" made in foreign countries. Also, they were on the Sinclair list, right? I'll ban them. I miss Houston!

15. I noticed at KMart today.
They had the "Unfit For Command" book, but not The Family.

I was suprised to see Unfit for Command, but became irritated that the Kitty Kelly book wasn't available.
