Lest we minimize the War on Women, read this alert
from Population Connection Email Action Network <eaction@populationconnection.org>

This is just too much. And the kind of thing that flies under the radar.

I need to get off the computer at the moment, so forgive me for "post and run".......

<snip>
Earlier this week, the United States Ambassador to the United
Nations, John Danforth, sponsored a panel discussion on
"Maternal Mortality: Effective Strategies for Increasing
Maternal and Newborn Survival." Admission to this US-funded
event was controlled by a little-known organization dedicated to
abolishing family planning programs throughout the world

Even more disturbing, one of the speakers at the taxpayer funded
forum was the former Peruvian Minister of Health, Dr. Fernando
Carbone, who attempted to require women to register all
pregnancies with Peruvian public health services from the moment
of conception and sought to ban emergency contraceptives in
Peru.

Please take a minute to let Ambassador Danforth know that you
find it unacceptable for the U.S. to sponsor a panel that
promotes ideologically driven, factually incorrect, and
dangerous views on women's reproductive health.
<end snip>

Please add your voice. Click on the above link. A letter of protest is provided. Personally, I'm just too drained to say much right now.

1. Yep, they are scared shitless that the birth-rate is going down.
It ain't about fetus rescue, it's about who the warmongers will get to fight their wars to make their money if women don't pump out the babies.

thanks for posting this.

2. Thank you for this information. Another disturbing fact:
There are physicians and pharmacists here in the U.S. who have are refusing to prescribe or fill prescriptions for birth control pills, declaring them an "abortificant" (hope I got that right. Don't have the article in front of me right now). And that's prescriptions for any reason--birth control, regulating periods, diminishing pain associated with menstruation or other diseases, or treating certain "female" conditions. This is not only infuriating but scary as heck. And I suspect that under Bush & Crowd, it will only get worse. I'm like you--too drained to say much more. I am glad I'm 'way past childbearing age, but my daughters aren't. It won't be long until the word "choice" will be removed from our vocabulary when it comes to women and reproductive rights. Damn Bush. Let's send him and his cronies packing!

4. It's one thing
to try to reduce infant mortality around the world (a good thing), but to limit contraception is an entirely different story. My body doesn't belong to wealthy, old dudes and neither does any woman's body. I wish they'd stop thinking they knew what was best for us.

13. Birth control
does reduce infant mortality by allowing the mother's body to recover from one birth before she has to be pregnant again. This ensures that any subsequent fetus will receive its full share of nutrients to develop properly, lowering it's chances of being stillborn or defective.

Being able to plan...which means being able to refuse...for additions to the family means that the ones already born get more of available resources; food, medical care, clean water, attention.

To say you are trying to reduce infant mortality at the same time you are denying contraception is a disastrous contradiction.

8. Just admit being a mom is a job.
Then we'd all be better off.

Right?

Right?

Right?

10. It's a tough one too.
No pay.
Pointless on a resume.
No health or dental plan either.
The one who holds everything together and it's the "dad" who gets all the rewards.
