Kerry says he'll discontinue the color-coded terror alerts
Edited on Wed Oct-20-04 06:14 PM by foo_bar
What do you think of the color-coded terror alerts the Department of Homeland Security issues?

I think Americans, sadly, laugh at it. They don't know what to do.

Will you continue that program?

No. I'm going to find some more thoughtful way of alerting America. If we have to alert America, I think the most important thing to do is alert law enforcement more effectively across the country. Law enforcement doesn't have even a single, unified watch list yet...

2. Yay
The color code thing is nothing more than a joke for stand up comics. "Yellow" and "orange" mean the same thing it seems, except that raising it up to "orange" leads to a 2-3pt bump for *.

5. that's a really bad idea ...
i think he should keep the color-coded alerts but change their meanings ...

red: corporations have taken over our government; we've lost our democracy
orange: globalization has destroyed our economy and our standard of living will be forced downward
yellow: our education system is not competitive with our economic competitors and we continue to fall further and further behind
green: we've trashed our social safety net programs like Medicare and Social Security
blue: we've allowed our news media to become so centralized that voters can never really obtain the truth

7. it'll probably end up closer to this:
Telecommunications of a CODE RED, and you must Alert the staff in the area you are working in. Do not use the word "fire"; use the code word "CODE RED" so that patients and visitors are not panicked.

red: fire
orange: HazMat spill
black: bomb threat
green: internal disaster, evacuate gently
yellow: external disaster, receiving disaster victims
white: utility failure
amber: utility failure specific to life support/oxygen
gray: severe weather or tornado

8. Its not a terror alert meter. It is a "ShrubCo not getting its way" meter
Thank God President Kerry will not be retaining this laughable little rainbow o' fear. Someday, 50 years from now, when Time is writing books about the opening decade of the 20th century, this little gem will appear there and we will all have a hearty laugh. "HAHA remember when that monkey was in the WH? What was his name again?"

11. One more reason
..that we absolutely have got to get Kerry into the White House.

Back when we had Democrats in the White House, the emergency alert systems and other civil defense set up made sense, like the old Emergency Broadcast System.

What do we get from the Repukes? Not civil defense, but "homeland security". Duct tape! A 5-color coded terra alert system! Official logos for the 5-colors that look like they are straight out of a cheesy Hollywood sci-fi or action movie!

The Repukes can't be serious.

That will give * two days of news play before the election.

14. Oh Dear! How will we know when to be afraid?
Or for that matter, how will we be able to tell when Republicans are fucking up?
