Mel Gibson---For Kerry?
Well at least according to a friend who says she heard him voice support for him on one of those BS infotainment shows....Could this be true? It is shocking to me...

1. Gibson is nuts, but I wouldn't be surprised.
He thinks catholicism is the one true faith and that his Episcopalian wife is probably going to hell. If all the Protestant fundies had known this, I wonder if they would have gone to see his snuff film in such numbers?

2. Wow! I wonder if it's true....
Mr. "The Passion" could very well influence people by endorsing one of the candidates. I always thought Mel was more of a right-winger, given his dad's background, as well as the fact that Gibson has optioned the rights over Bill O'Reilly's book "Those Who Trespass" for development into a motion picture.

9. John Kerry & Mel Gibson are both Catholics
Also, bush spoke at the anti-Catholic Bob Jones University in 2000...so maybe Mel sees Catholics getting persecuted under bush?

Hey hanging around Hollywood, how could Mel remain in the dark... blue?

No wonder the French are upset with us.....

17. Nice screenshot!
http://www.bluescreenmusic.com

I took it from a play on my nickname "Blue" and the fact that I score music for motion picture, where bluescreen technology is used in special fx.

In hindsight, I realize that PC users have a very different association with the word "bluescreen".

:-)

3. I doubt it. He is so outspoken.
Why would he not be public with his support?

6. I notice Mel is really ragged on here at DU...
but I kinda like him now (never did care for most of his movies and safe hollywood stuff) - it took a lot of guts to do what he did with The Passion.

btw, I'm not religious so don't start calling me names.

4. Maybe he is of the old school
who were so proud to have a Catholic for president when Kennedy was elected.

Being that the Republicans and fundamentalists ran ads that the pope would rule the country if a Catholic were elected.

hmmmmmm.....I have to think about that last statement with all these archbishops and opus dei guys trying to get involved in this election.

5. Monkey Butt check!!!
Nope--no monkeys flying out my butt yet...

Mel Gibson is so far right it isn't even funny. This is a guy who stated he thinks the Catholic Church is not conservative enough. I saw the interview myself...

Sorry--but I highly doubt Gibson would EVER support Kerry.

15. also, there's a school of conservative Christian thought
that believes Bush is either the antichrist or in the service of the Illuminati.

Gibson's father certainly believes this.

12. There was an issue of Esquire I believe a few months ago
with Kerry & Gibson shaking hands and acting very friendly. The pic was taken around the time of 'The Passion' release in theaters. It could have been a simple first time meeting or more than that. I would love to find the pic & post it. It would piss off alot of freepers!

Mel could be a Kerry suporter. This is not un-likely.They are both devout catholics.

16. It may be that Mel believes in the separation of church and state
Lots of people with strong religious beliefs do. I haven't seen "The Passion" yet, but I will eventually. I'm curious about it and have heard good reviews from friends.

I like Mel, like his movies and don't have a problem with his catholic beliefs because he is not forcing them on anyone. I saw a lot of the interviews with him prior to the release of "The Passion" and I think he was trying to make a movie that portrayed the trial and death of Jesus in a realistic manner. It was not a bloodless, painless death, and a crucial part of the story is that Jesus knew that this was going to happen to him and chose to take that road. My problem is not with Mel's movie, it's with the silly reaction many christians had to it. There is a lot more to the gospels than Jesus' bloody death.

I'm a liberal/new age christian who believes in God's presence in our everyday lives, but the idea of a President who states that "God told me to invade Iraq" scares the living daylights out of me. I'm sure there are conservatives who feel the same way. Pat Buchannan, for example.
